Default block drains on a 454BBC

Confused on this one. I took out both drain plugs (one either side of block) and the drivers side drained but nothing out of the passenger side. I took off the t-stat housing and filled the block with water, still nothing out of the passenger side, that plug is completely removed. I then removed the drivers side and it drained.

Am I getting all of the water out of the block, or am I missing something. I am in North Texas and it WILL freeze here.
Could I just fill it with anti-freeze and be good. Or is there something to worry about with it not draining on that side?

    TIA,

    Jeff

Not to speak for Alexi in his column, but in case he does not jump on and see this soon.

It's very common for the drain oil to get plugged by mud or rust or both. Usually you can carefully poke through the obstruction with a screwdriver. Be cautious if you use more than just hand power,, such as hammer or drill, you don't want to go through the other side of the water jacket.

the hole is as clean as a whistle up to the water jacket wall, I took air to try to clean the clog. Any other ideas on what I can do?

At times you can take a welding rods and put it in and scrape it around, but
It really depends on if it is concentrated in one area with access or not. Try it

when I bought my boat I took out the drain plugs on both sides and found the the block was full of sand. Knocked out all the feeze plugs and flushed the block with the hose.
