Head Unit, Amp advice for 4 6x9's.
Ok, i need to run a new head unit (because the dash is already cut out which i hate) and i have four marine 6x9 speakers. What head unit and amp (if needed) is a good buy. I need IPOD hookup. I dont' need anything crazy just something simple, and that will fit in the normal DIN installation. I have the cover, so it doesn't necessarily need to be a marine head unit. Thank you!

Any head unit that has what you want on it should work. AS far as an amp I would, I don't care what power they say the head unit puts out, it's a 15 watt chip amp. Any real speaker is going to want more power than that.Originally Posted by Tahiti Boss21
Jay, just but a cheap $100 to $120 head unit at Best Buy, then you do not care if it gets a little moisture on it. You definitely need and amp if you are going to run (4) 6x9's if you get a 4 channel amp around 50 to 75 watts of clean power per channel(speaker) that will be more than enough and later if you decide to add a sub-woofer you can use the same amp.

I'm in the process of replacing/upgrading mine and have picked up the following.
Pioneer DEH-3200UB head unit = $88 / Car Audio, Car Stereo System, Subwoofer, Car Amplifier, Audio Speakers
Pioneer TS-D6902R 6" x 9" (two sets) = $74ea set / Car Audio, Car Stereo System, Subwoofer, Car Amplifier, Audio Speakers
JL Audio 10W3v3 10" sub = $170 / Car Audio, Car Stereo System, Subwoofer, Car Amplifier, Audio Speakers I built my own enclosure (sealed) to fit the boat.
Rockford Fosgate R600-5 amp (5 channel amp) = $199 / www.ebay.com
I have not installed the components yet but think it will be a huge improvement over my current system of head unit and four 6 x 9's.
So for around $600 I think it will sound pretty good in the boat. Would like to add a pair of 6.5" in the bow area and will look at that later.
Like nightlife said what manufacturers state is usually PEAK watts @ 14.4vdc. Most HU claim 50watts per channel PEAK and RMS 22watts per channel but are CEA certified at 14watts.
- Peak: 50 watts x 4 channels
- RMS: 22 watts x 4 channels (Pioneer Certified)
- RMS: 14 watts x 4 channels (CEA Certified)
I always thought Pioneer had decent stuff that sounded good at a very reasonable price.

I recently finished the setup in my boat and im running all Rockford Fosgate amps. I love there products. I have 8 Infinity Kappa series 6.5'' sides running off 2 Fosgate P400.4 and 3 Fosgate p3 12'' subs in a custom box running off 2 Fosgate P1000.1 amps all off a $120 Pioneer Head Unit. It is the system from Hell. It vibrates the water around the boat and you can hear the lyrics crystal clear from a mile away. If there is anything you splurge on its the amp because you will regret it when your dealing with an amp that overheats every hour or distorts and blows your speakers. Ive always ran either fosgate, alpine, or pioneer in any system that ive done and ive never been disappointed.
