What type of batteries
Just looking for a sugestion on what type of batteries to use, I have 2 group 27's now they a old and dont last long. My stereo is not big but cant listen for more than 2 hours without clipping out and draining the batteries. Witch one should I replace them with?
They cost money, but they are the shiz. Kinetics.

Absolutely. Optima or any AGM. My blue top Optimas are 2005 models, just tested them two months ago and they still show 100% during load test. Nice and clean with no (possible) leaks and no dirty terminals.Originally Posted by rpm0414

I agree. I have a Kinetic 2400 amp battery in my boat. $350 if I remember. I have 4 6x9's and a 10" sub. 2 amps. I've played the radio for hours and never had a problem starting the motor. Kinetic's are built for audio systems.

Myself and a few others dont really like optimas. Its been discussed to death on the interweb. Please dont support Johnson/Optima.
If you know what you're doing, they live like they should. I have killed three and each time I figured out a new way to kill them. They have a three year warranty.....my Dad just got a bad one and took it back. New one within minutes and all is fine.
Nobody HAS to buy Optima. Just ANY AGM is better than flooded. Out of 31 total Optimas I personally own, I have killed three. My oldest is from 1998 and still going.

I have 2 optima blue tops that run the boat and an Odessey pc2150 that I run the stereo off. I have 4 alpine digital amps, 2 600 watt 4 ch and 2 1200 watt mono's that run 8 JL 7.7's and 4 JL 12w6's. The pc 2150 can power all that for 4-5hrs at high volume.

A few years back Optima changed from a gel/dry cell battery to lead acid and now the company is doing all manufacturing in Mexico and are nothing more then a lead acid battery. I run a hot rod shop and only use them now because of the battery box's that are in so many cars out there. We have had so many failures over the years even with battery tenders on them that now we only use them when we have to. They were the best but if you do some research, you will find that they are nothing more then a cool looking lead acid battery.

No to Optima!!! I have two Optima blue tops in my Nordic and can't listen to the stereo for more than two hours or so. I added two Stinger batteries, new to 2012, just for the stereo on an isolator. Easy to install and still charge off my shore power and alternator. I can turn my battery switch off to my drive batts, and stereo will run off the stingers. I have ran my stereo up to 10 hours with no problems. I have a decent stereo, 6 - JL 10W6's, 4 sets of JL M770 components, 3 - JL 1200x1HD amps, 3 - JL 600x4HD amps, 15" flip down HD screen, bluray player in cabin with 2 sets JL M660 components. Also, all my speakers have LED backlighting kits as well as one in the boat, and LED underwater lights. I can run all of that on those two batteries and they drop about 2 volts in 6 hours. Downside is that I paid $400 each for those and that was at a discounted price. I think they run $599 retail.
