i dont use either one (yet). I am wondering if there is a sirius head unit that anyone could recomment to replace my current one with. I say sirius because I have it in my truck and just like the ability to listen and not have to worry about a playlist, cables, cords ect being plugged in and hanging all over the place. I know I could use an ipod or mp3 and just plug it into the back of the current head unit so its out of sight but then I have to put it in the glovebox... I dont really like the thought of having to get into the glovebox everytime to dick with it...

I also need to replace an amp, and am thinking about putting in a sub.

    Hey Cam-
I put an Alpine deck in mine with sirius and ipod hookup...then they ran the ipod cable into the glove box so everything is hidden and out of the sun. The sirius antenna is just above the deck on that little and only about 1x1", so it's hardly noticable. Do you have the Cobra installed 12's under your rear seat? I have 3 12's plus 6 6x9s and 2 6" round that were all factory installed by cobra and it sounds fantastic with the sirius. feel free to shoot me a PM or phone call if you need help!

    Default one more thing..

I forgot to mention that the ipod is controlled from the deck, so once you plug it in and throw in the glove box, you don't have to touch it. Very convenient.

the 12's that you have in your boat were per the customer request, I think that Cobra put them in when Able had the boat built. When my boat was built I only put in an amp and I think they are pierce 6" speakers. I think I am going to replace/search for an alpine head unit with sirius or ipod capable, replace my current amp and add an additional amp for a sub or two. I think I might be on the right track now...

I do not like to play stereo games on the beach with others, I only need to have good clear sound for me. if someone on the beach wants to play music louder, than I just turn mine off. Sometimes it pisses me off because I think its rude but I get over it...

hope to see you in havi this year...

I hear ya on the stereo games; I'm the same way. I love the set up I have now (with the exception of the sony 6x9s but what are you gonna do) and would really reccomend 2 or 3 12s. I'm sure you've seen the way they are set up on my boat, but if you want pics or something I'd be happy to send you. Also, even with all the power I'm running to the amps, I've yet to drain 2 batteries. I've got 2 in line on one side of the switch and the 3rd fresh one on the other side for emergency starts but never had to use it.

We hope to get out your way this year, but our first baby boy is due to be born on May 10 so the lake trips may have to be easy local ones...we'll see how he takes to the boat

From speaking with the customer's that I have installed for, they all love using iPods over anything else. Get a deck with a input for an iPod and you're on your way. Just like millhouse961 said, you control the iPod from the deck and not from the iPod itself. Just make sure the deck has a input specifically for an iPod as there are a many different ways to hook up a iPod to a deck but not all of them will allow you to control the iPod from the deck.

About a week ago, I replaced a damaged cassette deck for a CD player and CD Changer combo. What a joke, those were "in" 10+ years ago.

No, he looked to be upper 30's/lower 40's. He bragged about how much money he saves by waiting for technology to drop in price. Must have made his life interesting when he upgraded to indoor plumbing. LMAO

Ha ha! I guess if you wait until technology is obsolete it will certainly be cheaper. What a tool.

    Keep it simple.....

More power equals more battery problems. If you only have 2 batteries I would be scared to run alot of power out of two amps. You can wire it so it won't draw off one so you always have a starter but 500+ watts is gonna hammer a battery pretty quick at decent play volumes.

The Alpine HU's are nice for Sirus and the Ipod.(I have the older 9857)

I would look at the PDX amps for power.

If I was going to do it again I would probably do a healthy PDX 5 channel amp with 4 6.5's and 1 12" sub.

I'm running a little less than 2,000 watts (4 10" subs 8 6.5's/2 6x9's) and the two stand alone odyssey 1700's peter out after a full day of playing.
