    Default speaker????

i have a 6x9 that quit working, so time to replace a couple speakers, how much of a difference (sound wise) is there between and 3 way 6 x 9 and a coax (2 way) 6x9, my current set up is 2 boston 6x9 3 ways in the open bow area, 2 6.5" boston 3ways in the mid cabin, 2 alpine tweets at the front of cockpit, 2 boston 3 way 6x9 in the rear and 2 12" subs, the rear 6x9's are the ones that need replaced, so i need them to offset the subs or finish out the sound, however you want to say it, i can get a great deal on a set of jl audio 6x9's but they are coax, any input on the sound difference would be great, all speakers are on crossovers if that helps, alpine head unit, 2 amps and electronic crossover for subs.
    thanks in advance forkedup

I'm not on the retail side of things but I would say not much of a difference between a good quality 2 way and a good quality 3 way.

Hows it going? Did you sell forkedup?

Usually the only advantage from a 2 way to a 3 way is slightly more power handling and a little more upper midrange response.

I thought you sold it but I wasn't sure. Engine is finally running good. Hull/pump set up is very bad. Working on that now and should be done with that in a couple of months. Then I am swapping the TR and carbs for injection and then the engine should run bad again. LMFAO

Circut City has some good deals on Polk right now. They had a buy one get one 50% off deal. I just pulled out my JL stuff and went with the Polk WOWW what a diference in clarity 3 sets of 6.5 compenets, 1 set 6x9's (3 way) and lanzar amps in the lavey now and polk says there marine certified right on the box so no issues w a little water and warranty...Good luck , Ryan

put the jl's in friday night, went to the lake on sunday, wow what a major dispaointment the jl's are, they will be coming back out this weekend, not sure if it is just me or the product, my front boston 6x9's hit like a pair of 8's handle all the power i can throw at them and sound great, all throught the ranges (tweet, mid, bass), these jl's could not handle shit, had to remove damn near all low from them, turn down the power to them so they where barely getting anything, major let down i guess.

Damn that sucks. I seriously doubt if your dissappointment has anything to with the fact they're 2 way. I'm completely guessing but the JL's could be designed for use with a different setup than what you've got (i.e.: they could be designed for use with specific sized enclosures or if they're in enclosures they could be designed for free air mounting). Yea I know that I'm pretty useless on recomendations but that's the price I pay for not being in retail.

pulled my head out of my ass, and played with the system over the weekend, changed some shit around, jl's are staying in the boat now, after wiping the crap from my eyes and properly setting things up, they sound a hellofalot better than they did, thanks for the input on 2 or 3 way, you are right, there is very little noticable differance.
