I need to get new batteries this year. I have 2 bateries on a perko switch. Is it better to have 1 starting battery for starting and then 1 deep cycling battery to run stereo?

if there isnt much difference in price why not get both deep cycle, then you dont have to worry about what # your perko is on?
Hey ultra21 i have an 02 21xs and had two blue top optimas with a perko switch. 1 was for starting and one was for the stereo. i believe mine were both original batteries so they were 6 years old. i bought the boat at the beginning of last season and had no issues until the last trip of the season it barely started. so sunday i went and bought 3 new blue tops and all new stereo equipment. its all listed on the amps thread in the audio section. you can get blue tops at costco for $155 a piece. i went with 3 of them because i wanted 2 for the stereo and 1 for starting. you will want to buy a charger. i got a 3 bank promariner 30 at boaters world and mounted it near the batteries. all you have to do is plug it in after you use the boat and it charges the batteries back up and keeps them fully charged without overcharging.
the battery i got is the d34m at costco for $155
I got my Optima from Sears since Costco was out of stock. Sears price matched Costco.

Life is all about ass, you're either covering it, hauling it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.
As with allmost everything - IMO
You're going to want to keep that battery switch, especially if you like to listen to your tunes when your engine is off. You can "shut off" the the main battery and listen to your tunes at the beach/sandbar and not have to worry about whether or not your boat is going to start when you're ready to leave.
Stick with your plan "A". min. 2 batteries with 1 strictly for the engine, make them both deep cycle batteries.
