    Default Circuit Breaker help..

So we took our boat out for the first trip this weekend, stereo worked fine the first day, then day 2 the head unit comes on, but no amps. So I figured out that the circuit breaker from the battery is getting power in but no power going out to the amps, the reset doesnt seem to be working. What im wondering is if the circuit breaker is too small for the amps, I have two alpine amps and the boat builder who installed the system used the one 70 amp breaker for both amps.
    I have one alpine pdx-1.600 and 1 pdx-4.100

So is that breaker just too small or could it just have been a bad breaker from the beginning?

    Default my thoughts

your 70 amp breaker sounds like enough check all your grounds before you replace breaker but it does sound like your breaker is bad if it wont reset

Ya checked the grounds they are good from battery to amps.

I was thinking of maybe running a 70 amp for each amp, just not sure if this is even necessary.

Im not a stereo expert, but the sub amp has 2 30 amp blade fuses on the amp itself and the speaker amp has 4 20 amp fuses. Does this mean that together they are capable of pulling 140 amps?

    Default not to sure

im not to sure how the fuses on the amps them selves work but i do know that i have accidentaly grounded out one of my amps by accidentaly touching the power cable to something metal and it popped one of those fuses i dont think that was that many amps you know. stupid question but did you check the remote wire from the radio to the amps and did you check the rca's be hind the radio.

The power cable into the breaker is 8 gauge and two 8 gauge cables out of the breaker to each amp, not positive one what size the ground is but i think it may be 6 gaugue also two seperate cables from the batteries to each amp.

The boat is a 2009 essex stored indoors since october when I picked it up, this was the first trip to havasu this past weekend, steroe work great on friday ahd it on for 4 hours or so then sat morning was when the breaker went bad

yes...you should have a 150 amp circuit breaker. (unless you can find a 140)

So a 150 or two 70 amps breakers would be a better way to do it?

just like SPL said either a 140 (if you can find one) or a 150, make sure that when you push the side piece back in to re-engage the breaker that it clicks.. I have seen a few that came back that were pushed in but not all the way

Also, where are the amps located? If they are not under the back seat, or a few feet from the breaker, chances are you have a too small of power wire.

Your excisting problem, as said before, seems to be a bad breaker. But there are other issues with the electrical power side of your system.
Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!
