xm antenna
The antenna wire for my xm on the boat is about 10 feet long. Is it just a two conductor antenna that I could cut and shorten? What about splicing it to some kind of quick connector? I hate having 10' of wire spooled up on the dash. Anyone have any suggestions.

Bummer. I tried under the dash already and it cuts in and out. Guess I'll have to live with it.
they also make a mini antenna that is smallr size, like the size of a quarter, but as for the wire, zip ties are its best friend. you can pick up one of those antenna off ebay for around 10 bucks.
gps / xm antennas
make sure the antenna faces up when mounted under the dash. Use heavy duty velco to hold it in place. cutting the cable asks for trouble, the recievers are sensitive to the db loss in the coax, and are tuned for a specific length. Many composite aircraft use this mounting technic with out issue. Carbon fiber will not pass a radio signal, so don't try to mount it under this material, fiberglass and wood are fine.
