Default Which would you put in your boat and why?

I am putting a new system in my boat. The store I am going to use has three brands that carry marine components. I am looking for people who have or have had any of these brands and if they were happy or upset with them and why. Opinions are like... well, you know. Everyone has one. If money was no object, I believe JL would be the best. However, that is an opinion - I have never owned JL myself, the store I am using doesn't sell JL and I cannot afford JL if they did. I am not interested in "this brand is better than that" just your personal experiences with the three brands below that are in my budget.

    Brand #1 Alpine

    Brand #2 MTX

    Brand #3 Sony

All the above have "marine" speakers, amps and subs. So, what have you had and how did you like it?

    Thanks!

    Dustin

Alpine, has always worked out great for me including their newest marine stuff.

Not sure about you but I've never had to beg my boat for a good time!

The Alpine V12 stuff is supposed to be real efficient on battery power from what I hear. Personally, I run HiFonics power on Memphis Audio marine speakers. 8" coaxial sound good and have decent bass for a coaxial due to the size. Good power handling too.

The only drawback to them is the speaker grilles are plastic and quickly break when leaned against after sitting in the sun a bit. No aftermarket grilles are available specifically for them. I'm looking into generic billet covers for this reason.

I liked my Alpine products. I had a few grand worth of it in my 21fter for a long time. Decent amps, took a beating, kept working all the crossovers were easy to tune. Large understandable controls on the head units -easy to use while moving.

I tried some sony product and didn't like it as much, and although sonically ok My kenwood product had tiny little buttons that were hard to use while running.

Im a bit up the ladder now with Audison/Hertz, but from what you are choosing from Id go Alpine.

If those are the only options, then Sony head unit and Alpine amps / speakers.

Sony huh?? What do you think of this unit. I've been eyeing it for awhile. Is there a better single din marine unit that is better other than Sony you would recomend? I also am looking into some other upgrades before the season as well is why ask.

Actually im pulling that very unit out of my boat today to put my Sony CDX-M60UI back in. The Sony sounds better, its louder, its easier to use, its half the price, and its not made in china.

If you really want an IDA-X100m, I will have one in the Spam section shortly.
