    Default recomendation on these

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/compa...id%5B%5D=22739

I'm replacing some crappy 6x9's and need a little larger speaker to fill the hole. I was wondering if anyone has any input on these two speakers. Tempted to go with the fosgates for the price but if the JL's are that much better then the price may not be an issue. Or if anyone has a really good recommendation on a 8" coaxial then please post up. I only compared the JL for $139 for a picture.

    Thanks, Tim

JL Audio 7.7 Cockpit or cabin depending on where you are mounting them. The sound quality will drop your jaw...

ehhh...they hurt my ears. Tweeters are way too harsh. The Rockford Fosgate M282's sound much better, look better, and are cheaper.

I have the Memphis 8" coaxials, they work pretty well and aren't too expensive. Sound good (not harsh to my ear, and I'm sensitive to the highs), go fairly low too.

You cant even compare Fosgate to JL. You must be getting real good deals on Fosgate.

Why not? Its all made in the same building in china.

The Rockfords have an aluminum dome tweeter which is MUCH better sounding in an open air environment (boats) where the JL's have a coated silk dome.

Im pretty sure I know what im talking abouit regardless of what I pay for equipment.

I am not saying you don't know what your talking about. I do know that when someone makes more money on one brand then thats what they push.

Unfortunately, with most retailers thats true. And usually whatever they have in stock at the moment is the best on the market. Im the exception. I care far more about the performance than the profit.

Most head units come with either an equalizer or Treble/Mid/Bass adjustment. One of the keys to a good sounding system IMHO is being able to find a balance across Bass, Mids, and Tweets. Sometime tuning the system can be the trickiest part.

Yes, the RF's have an Aluminum Alloy tweeter while the JL have a Silk dome. Which honestly to me, is backwards. The Aluminum Alloy RF is the harsh while the Silk is softer in comparison IMO...

Ive owned the RF and the Memphis stuff. I still have Memphis stuff in my truck currently, my last truck was RF. The RF is/has always been my favorite since back in the day when their little punch amps used to be the ticket. I thought I would try something new with Memphis, and while they sounded good at first, they have deteriorated in sound drastically, still sound good, but they just dont have the WOW factor.

So with the boat I figured I would go with JL. I have 4-JL Audio M770-CCX-SG-TB's powered by a JL Audio MHD 900/5, and controlled by a Pioneer DEH-P7200HD. All I have to say is WOW!! It was money well spent and people who ride in my boat are just plain shocked.

Im a firm believer in "To Each Their Own", and as long as it makes you happy, thats all that matters.
