    Default Bass shuts off???

I have 2 big batteries for an amp for the highs and jl 1000.1 for (2) 12's. When i turn the volume up high (not all that high) the bass will cut out then a few seconds later hits and then back out again. No issues if i keep at lower volume.
Not enough batteries or do i need a power capacitor or ?????????????????

A Capacitor will help and what size alternator do you have? Where are the amps grounded to? One battery should be enough for the JL and another amp for the high's. I ran a RF 1500.1BD and another amp for the highs and used one battery...

I've had a problem just like that before and in my setup up it was the power lead from the stereo.... I had it just tied into all the amps and when the bass would hit, I think the overall power fell enough that the amp turned off and on.

I installed a relay and and the head unit drives the relay and the relay is tied to the main power distribution block. It doesn't happen now no matter how loud I turn it up!

It can be 4 different problems.

    1. Low voltage at the amp. You need to check voltage at the amp while its cycling on and off at high volume.
    2. Low impedance protection on the amp. Are the subs matched correctly with the amp?
    3. Overloaded input section on the amp. How high is the gain setting on the amp?
    4. Damaged circuit board. Vibration from the bass at higher volume levels is causing the board to short inside the heat sink. This is common with the JL slash amps when used in boats. Especially the 500/5's in the Magic deck boats.

You DO NOT need a capacitor.

2x on voltage check. Low voltage will make em shut off. Check voltage at the amp, then crank it up and watch voltage. check both main power to amp and turn on power voltage.

Your power and ground wires may be too small or your ground may be loose or not have good contact.

    Bingo!

    #2 specifically.

My guess is that the amp is seeing 2 Ohm load or less.
Subs are wired wrong, most likely.
