Deep Impact, the Miami-based manufacturer of high-performance powerboats, has appointed two executives to its upper management staff.

Plant Operations Manager Steven Koss and Purchasing Manager Orlando Santos have been brought on board to assist with the 13 year-old brand’s restructuring and long-term growth, it was announced. Koss brings a wealth of boating knowledge and more than 30 years of business experience to the table, most recently with PowerPlay, Cheetah Cat and Platinum Power Boats.

Santos, also a key asset with 28 years of experience, rose through the ranks within Cigarette Racing. He began his career as a rigger and throughout his term at Cigarette moved positions from Quality Control to Parts Manager, Purchasing and Stock Room Manager.

Since acquiring the company in 2008, Deep Impact’s CEO Lazaro Hernandez has spent his first twelve months observing its culture and influencing outside factors. Over the last two years, Hernandez has implemented a strategic management and repositioning sales structure, restructuring the supply chain, improved production efficiency and adding three new models to Deep Impact’s seven boat catalog over the next year. The acquisition of Koss and Santos has Deep Impact further poised to emerge as leading provider of high-performance, high-end boating solutions.

“I am thrilled to welcome Koss and Santos to the Deep Impact team,” Hernandez said. “Beyond their industry contacts, both Koss and Santos each bring over 20 years of quality marine experience from which Deep Impact can immediately benefit. We are being built in the tradition of legendary boat builders of the past and as a result I can honestly say that Deep Impact is a legend in the making today. In addition to having two key personnel changes, our new factory will make our production line much more efficient and increase our customer service. It is a major step forward.”

Nice to see in this tough boating economy that companies can see the light at the end of the tunnel and are bringing on key people.
