carb help

just got a quickfuel ss 780 vac secondarys ele chock my friend ran it on a motor a few times to break it in i have seen it work several times it sat for maybe 40 days then i bought it and put it on my motor gas poors out of it through the tubes on top of the carb do i need to adjust the floats does it need to be rebuilt it i did unhook the ele chock and i use a ele fuel pump help i no nouthing about carbs time to learn thanks

If the fuel is coming out of the tubes on the very top of the carb, the float/needle/seat is stuck open, or the pump you're using is putting out too much pressure (PSI). Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Fuel pressure regulator?

If the fuel is drizzling out of the tubes (boosters) in the barrel of the carb, sounds like a power valve failure.

When P/Valves get damaged they dump fuel INTO the intake, not the fuel bowls/vents... It sound as though the needles are stuck DOWN. It is not un usual for that to happen as the fuel evaporates and leaves a residue inside the carb...Unless the carb was beat up, dropped, shaken, or stored in a snowbank, try LIGHTLY tapping the bowls above the needles with a PLASTIC screwdriver handle.... If the carb was abused it might require pulling the bowls to "un bind" the float flange/needle alignment... One other question, any idea what your fuel pressure is?.....

PS "breaking in" a carburetor is totally NOT required..... They're ready to go right out of the box. Add gas, go fast.....

My best guess solution is too much fuel pressure.

If you do not apply power to an electric choke, it will never open. You will need to hook it up, remove it, or make it stay open all the time by some mechanical means (zip tie) or turning the choke housing until the choke stays open.

What is the "list" number on the choke horn? Does this carb have metering blocks front and rear, or just on the primary side? .... Did anybody maybe take the carb apart since it was ran? External float adjustments? Side hung, or center hung floats?? See, the "list number" would answer all those questions...AND... Have you ran that electric pump before?.... Do you have a fuel regulator? Shitty/dirty gas? You might just have a little piece of shit stuck in the needle seat area... That can be cured without taking the carb apart if you have any rubber fuel line in the system...

Yeah, that's right, this isn't an actual Holley..... I have ZERO experience with those extremely expensive Holley copies..... So, disregard my question about the list number..... BUT, I'm still leaning towards stuck needle(s) due to drying out....

thanks for the help it is the carb in the pic iam using a holley blue and berry grant regulator non return style

Quick Fuel recommends the fuel pressure be between 6½ and 7 psi, this may or may not be your issue. The needle and seat may be stuck. As Ray mentioned earlier, try tapping the adjustment screw/nut with the handle of a screwdriver in an attempt to free them. If that doesn't work, take the needle /seat out, clean it, and make sure the needle moves freely. If it's clogged with junk, chances are there is (or soon will be) junk in other parts of the carb too and should be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned.

Start by getting the fuel pressure where it needs to be, adjust the float level, then proceed from there.

Needle & Seat / Fuel Pressure

One of the most common cause of uncontrolled fuel dumping into the boosters is the needle/seat assembly O rings leaking. With age they flatten out and/or get hard and lose tension against the bore of the bowl.

ya the 2 port BG fuel regulator SUCKS BIG TIME i put it on my dads S10 never again i run a mallory with a by pass on my boat works great went through the carb and cleaned it going to try it after dinner
