the motor is fresh, the dist came out of the 454 it replaced also a short deck 454....

if it's the wrong oil pump, shaft, why would it not be in the cam gear far enough????

The guy thats installing the motor and put the pump in doesn't have a clue,,,, and has never even heard of a tall deck..

I thought maybe the guy sent me a tall deck motor but the intake for a 9.8 bolted right on???
is it the same intake manifold? I've had them that take a tall deck dist for a low deck motor. that means your oil passage is not lined up right also, they also make dist with adjustable collars for this problem.just a thought.

My first quick guess is that it got a SBC oil pump drive shaft put in it. Use a tape measure to measure from the intake to the top of the oil pump drive shaft.

Now that I have picked myself up off the floor from laughing hystericaly at the machine shop "sales pitch" list including the "AIRCRAFT QUALITY CAST STEEL", and the "best of the best". Good ole 2FORCEFULL, always the comedian.

My guess is that either Barry is correct, OR..............

Barry, how many of those ProComp manifolds that had the 90o dizzy hole and pad do you figure are out there floating around?

Don't jack thread? What thread> I am still trying ti figure out if this is an add for the machine shop and Procrap, or about a dizzy/oil pump problem. Did we really really need to know the crank and rod manuf., and the brand and quality of the "machines". The machine is only as good as the YAHOO running it.
Endo didn't jack your thread and take it off topic, YOU DID!

Terrible attitude from someone looking for help, but typical. Does this mean you found the problem and you are refering to yourself in that edit?
Come on 2FORCEFULL, its ok to tell us the dizzy gear was changed and installed upside down.

I wonder if Lycoming gets their crankshafts from Pro-Comp? Scary thought, isn't it?

    1. new gear is installed upside down
    2. SBC shaft
    3. Procomp manifold with the dizzy hole and pad milled 90o with the world.

    In that order.

I would have figured it was something a little more difficult to find than a bump on the manifold right in front of you. But then, maybe I should have taken the source into consideration.

you know buddy, you might know about motors... so what...

but anybody that makes fun of someone that asks a question is a jerk...

anybody that makes fun of other peoples property because is not the highest quality available is a even bigger jerk..

you take over every thread, yes, you seem to know what you are talking about.. I raced and wrenched AA/BAD...

and no I could not afford to race top fuel... so go ahead and laugh... I come on here with afford able ideas, and ask questions that others might learn from
only to have you badger the shit out of me...

my hallett runs flawless and picked up 8 mph...my 72 super cheyenne with the 509 515hp is gonna be just fine for a cruise through town now and then...

pretty sure I could pick you and your stuff apart.... I just don't do that...

so sit on your internet throne and polish your paper burger king crown..... in the real world...you're no better than anyone else

so have a good day my friend..and if you ever need anything that I can help you with call on me, cause thats the kind of guy I'm am

and anyone else out there,...ask questions...it's what makes you learn... even if all you learn is who the a-holes are...

and for the record, I was shown the dist. it was about 4 tenths short on the gear mark, ( i told them to white grease it and make sure it was in the pump)

when they told me that it was short I assumed it was a tall deck...9.8 =stanard deck 10.2 =tall deck.. I knew I could figure it out, but though that some of the info posted would be helpfull to those that don't know there is a differance...

I posted the info I got with the motor to show that it was not suspose to be a tall deck... guess I was wrong because it was not a rolex....

when I went to the shop it took all of a couple minutes to figure it out, but was real suprised at how many don't know that there is such a thing as a tall deck big block....

any even more suprised at how many people can't change jets in a carb....I don't laugh at them. I just show them how easy it is...

oh, and for the record... this is the engine that I bought for my 72 short bed super cheyenne,

they SIM test them, ship them, and no core for 3k... thought what hell do I have to loose... for 3k???

looks like a great street rod motor, no.....not a race motor... I figure the week link to be the tires on that nose heavy plow...
