I understand what your saying. Info applied to the wrong enigne can become bad info quickly. Using the roller shrouding as a "guide" to chosing a LIFTER FOR A BBC is bad info and a terrible idea. What makes it bad lifter for a Buick does not make it bad lifter for a BBC.
I was trying to point out to Hammerdown that there were other VERY significant difference between the two unshrouded ligter as well. The hieght of the oil band and the location of the feed oil may not seem all that obvious, but it can make the difference between the lifter working for you or not.

So I finally got the engine and boat all put back together last Friday.
Had guests from out of state for the weekend.
Took the boat out Saturday and it performed flawless all day with the new morrells!!
thank you Mr. Straub for the advice and the lifters!!
not only was the "problem" fixed, but overall performance improved and the usual valve train "noise" was reduced.
I did have to get slightly shorter pushrods for the morrells, but they are without question a FAR superior product than the comps.
Engine turned 5400 with the A and boat was far more responsive and almost violent in accelerating to 80 MPH +!!!
Anyway, it put me back a couple months, wasted time and money, but it is together now and ready to go!!
im happy again!
