    Default Wow...sugestions...predictions.lol

Not sure where to begin...and can work on some pics. #3 exhaust has been the Achilles heel of my motor. Its kind of a long story..had a faulty rocker let 2 or 3 seasons ago...and it buggered the tip of the valve stem. I didnt replace the valve until last season...because in june at powell that valve spit the rocker arm off. I had a new to me machine shop put a new valve in. I noticed and posted on here that the new valve was sunk waaaay in to the head. Fast fast to monday at the lake ...valve(s) sound loose. The 2nd valve I check is #3 ex...and it about . 055 The poly lock is tight...she didnt back off. Adjust it and run it??? Thats a boat load of lash to loose eh

depending on how long you ran the motor before you "heard" it, either you blew the lash when you THOUGHT you had it in the right place, or you're losing a lifter(if its a roller) or your cam is going flat(if its a flat tappet).
If the valve sank farther into the head the lash would get tighter. If you tuliped the valve it would get tighter. What are the chances the valve is higher on the seat than when you started. Slime and none!

If this is a roller it could be a lifter going away. You don't want to know the ending of that story. If it's a flat tappet, it could be a lobe going away. That story's already over.

I believe my post is up there first. Besides, why would I want to copy your post. I think you're wrong.

lol...my bad..if the valve was further in the head it would be tighter huh Something is up...lost about 500 r's too. Perfect timing.... It was 65 last weekend....suppose to be 90* this weekend. BTW...its a solid roller...hippo crowers. I think I asked a simular Q before...but how many hours until its time to replace lifters and rocker arms. I understand thats a loaded Q...I dont even know my spring pressure...but my lift is 700 ish. Is it better to have the lifters rebuilt...or just buy new ones when the time comes.

Check the rocker studs for true to valve stem! Maybe stupid response for a big power engine but start at the basics. Also torque???? M

I would also be pulling the roller lifter on that cly and checking the cam for damage, I had a screw in rocker stud back out before on my alum bbc heads and of course make sure the rocker still has all of it's needle bearings. How about some pics....

I will pull the intake tonight and check the lifter and rocker. I could be up in the night...but I thought I heard a little pop right as I left the harbor. I cant afford to take any chances.

I didnt have to dig to far. My poly lock got ate up...again...I have another just like it in my desk drawer cept its a different brand. This time its partially my fault..or all my fault.lol From what I was told these poly locks that neck down...are kinda obsolete. When I put my motor together after last years deal...I replaced 1 rocker(from a different cyl)...and it appears to be the newer style thats needs a larger poly lock. Guess its time to invest in new rockers and poly locks. I hope that cures my problem....tired of sending shrapnel through my motor
Any thoughts...am I on the right track??

If your talking about that last 1/8 of the body, some rockers require that because the seat in the trunnion isn't large enough. Most decent rockers will handle the thicker locks. It is much more desirable to have the end of the poly lock as thick as possible. Its possible thats what happened. Its also possible that is the result of the lash getting to big to start and then it hammered the poly lock. When the lash starts to open up, the valve train becomes a jack hammer and very destructive. You still need to pull the lifter, inspect it, and the cam lobe.
