850 DP Secondary Float Adjustment

I have a 850 DP. I recently put quick fuel quick change bowls on it. They have the built in sight window to adjust the floats. I took the boat out this weekend and could not get the secondary float adjusted properly. It was almost always completely full. I looked at idle and while cruising down the lake both times it was full. I have the needle adjusted down almost to where the adjustment nut barely engages. When I installed the needle in the new bowl it seemed to be opererating fine. It moved freely, and seemed very clean. I drained the bowls dry prior to storage last year. I was wondering if it is a fuel pressure problem. I run an Edelbrock mechanical high volume fuel pump and a -8 fuel line. I do not have a pressure guage on the line. Could it be that the secondary bowl gets more pressure than the primary due to the fuel feed line shape. Liquid follows the easiest path and it would make sense that there is more pressure to the end of the fuel line feeding the secondaries instead of the line that Tees off and feeds the primaries. Even the primaries are still a littlle high. Could I put the small fuel filter that sits in the carb inlets back in the secondary side only to slow the flow a bit? Thanks Josh

No, there is not more pressure in the secondaries. Your needle and seat assembly is toast. 99% of the time it isn't the needle and seat itself, but the o-ring on the outside that allows fuel to pass on the outside of the assembly.
One thing to consider though. There are a number of Edelbrock pumps. saying its a "high volume" pump means nothing. Model #s go along way towards knowing if it requires a regulator or not.

EDL 1722 does not but the 17001 and 1712 do.
