Well, you know I did BP.I made fun of magnetos.I told him a real ignition would run faster. ROFL Amos asked what was a real igintion. I told him a MSD 7AL. He laughed and said it would not even idle on that. I then said...well, you would need an alternator too. HAHA
Fixed a f***ing short they had that shocked the hell out of me a couple times. I was allowed to clean out the oil pan. Fixed the generator. Then all the engine BS. Geez. I actually was the odd side guy. How fitting, huh? I found a crack in an exhaust rocker roller. Apparently that a recipe for disaster.
For those that don't know whon is on the left... that is Amos Saterlee. Google him. Impressive life.
Amos said to Lou he should keep me. No BS. WOW!

waggles, i'd have expected nothing less out of you. i'm just wondering - why don't you have one of those spiffy shirts and hats on??? if you're gonna play the part, you gotta look the part...
amos is a character. talked to him several times at past banquets. 3 or 4 years ago, they did a special "this is your life" deal for amos during the banquet, which was really cool. the guy has been around a long time and accomplished a lot. "living legend" is probably an appropriate moniker.
Well, I did not take my KDBA hat off all weekend. I was sporting it proudly.
I wore a spiffy shirt to the in ramp, out ramp, and awards pic... other than that I was working and did not want to get it all dirty.

So, the ignition thing started over "to much anitsieze on the sprak plug and make sure there is not lint on it". My response was "you are fucking with me, right?" I am still not sure if they were or not. Wingnut (Kevin) who helps Amos all the time and I had a good time joking around. The one time they said I had to much antisieze on the plugs it dropped 3 cylinders (ok, it was DEAD FAT), but I was the bad guy. ROFL That is when I told em a real ignition would not care about the antiseize.
Here is part of a boat. Pretty cool. Up close you can tell its a fuel boat...burn marks, etc. HAHA

Here I am flexing for the camera.... acting like I am doing something. No one else wanted to do head work. No wonder. BUT the photo guy wanted to get a picture of ME working.. he said no one would believe it. HAHA

right click, save as.... cool pic for my archives of the "Perf Boat Peeps"...
I was going to ask you about speding time with Amos as I started reading this thread. That was the first thing that entered my mind...
Getting to spend time with him and pick up ANY little tidbit of info would have made it all worth while for me...
Very very cool...
I got to meet him and talk to him for a while in Bixby Knolls (California) at a car show/cacklefest... Now I always go and say howdie and welcome him to STL when I see him at the drag races...
What a cool legacy he has (to us gear heads)...![]()

He is just a normal guy with tons of knowledge. He talked to me just like I was someone. Not an arrogant ass. I ran into those guys in the other pits. The more I know about him, the more I realize how cool it is just to have had dinner with him, etc.
Oh, see the guy in the background next to the trailer (sleeping)? That is Kevin Cashen aka "wingnut". I have no idea how he got the nickname. He has been working with/ for Amos forever. They have so many strories.
I really worked my ass off. No kidding. I also wasn't always cheerful. But... I had one heck of an experience. It won't soon be forgotten.

Do they have to tear the engine down after every pass
WFLC
SO I was watching the prop shaft/prop guy do his thing a few times, what kind of test are they doing on the prop shafts and props? Magnaflux after each round just some kind of dye test or?????????
It really is pretty amazing to watch it ALL come apart and fly back together...
I felt REALLY sorry for ole Amos at Wheatland in 2011 in that 100degree humidity/heat, he must have been miserable... He was in there checking all of the rods/pistons/rings/bearings...
