454 screw up

I've abused a lot of cast iron over the years and never seen anything like that!!! 3" drop, with a SLIPPING wench should not have done that even if the wench grabbed..... I'm betting you just dodged a huge bullet because that had to be cracked beforehand......

PS I've had a MK IV BBC drop fully 6' on to concrete with zero damage and it landed on the mains at an angle......

That would depent on the length of the bolt in that hole. Longer the bolt, the more leverage it had when the block flipped to one side.

In the future Eddie, put on a main cap and feed a fan belt thru the main bore. The rubber won't hurt anything, and it makes a nice sling to put the hook in.

I might have wrote it wrong, but i needed to lower the block about three inches so it would line up with the engine stand, it actually fell about 3 feet, it hit the engine stand im guessing just right, the block went sideways and all the weight was on the #4 main, it just snapped it clean off!, i have never had this happen, i have dropped blocks on accident , but never had damage like this, also this is the same main that had all the crank dammage, when i pulled the motor apart, i dont know but I feel like a huge ASS, by the way the chain I use haa a rubber hose around it, or rubber covering whatever you want to call it, I could not even sleep last night I was so pissed, well I should have gone to sleep after work instead of doing this, but i just didnt want to leave the block in the back of my truck, i was worried that someone might steal my truck and i would lose the block also, (I use to be a cop, cant help thinking like that now) ohh well my fault or the wench? i havnt checked it yet , to pissed, then sad then pissed, 454's are hard to come by around here now so this really sucks.....maybe i will go to the 396,

On a serious note, that sucks big time. Especially after laying out cash for machining.

I've always used a couple bolts in the decks and a chain across the lifter valley. The last time I had to put a short block on a stand, I was lucky to have a stand that was nearly identical in height to my Jeep Cherokee... came right out, no problem.
