System One is on the bottom of most hard core racer's lists that I've talked to for that reason. A 70 micron particle would hardly fit through most bearing clearances.

Here is what Im looking at.
Heard the same about their filters Scott.. Ive got 2 of them at my shop that I could use though, one is a screw on and the other is a canister like above. Would rather run the canister like above for a few different reasons. I might be stuck using one of them atleast for a while till I can get the one I want (titan) Here is the thing, on their screw on serviceable filters they are selling 30 micron filters, when you go to the canister type they are selling 75 micron filters. any idea why?

Mike, what do you think about 75? that is all i see System 1 offers for inline filters.. im actually going to convert a fuel filter Ive had lying around into a oil filter. Talked to system 1 about it today, they said its the same body just change the element and im good.

Absolutely not. If a particle is larger than the space between the bearing and the crank, then it's going to do damage on it's way through, or at least cause drag.
The system one (without checking, just guessing) is using two different element styles in the two different filters. They may intend them for two different applications, as well. I think the in line is purely a stainless screen/high flow where the screw on is more of a replacement for the stock filter. Some guys run a primary filter and a secondary filter. Dry sump guys might run a larger micron filter before the pump, and something finer going into the engine. Off road guys may feel a need for absolute filtration, while someone in a cleaner environment might not feel the need, and want maximum oil flow instead. I'm not surprised you got 15 different answers. I think it's something that's probably not given a lot of thought in most cases. Another "he said/she said, well then it's good enough" thing...which may be fine. I think- good for you that you're looking into it.We may all learn someting.
One thing to think about is friction. I can't help but think there's more power available the cleaner your oil is.![]()

A 75 micron size wil pass a .0029 particle, a 60 micron wil pass a .0023. I think a 75 micron element is a little big.
Thanks Scott. I know very little about filters which is why Im here. I was thinking the same thing about the inline System 1 filters. I think those are more designed for a drysump setup where 2 filters are used which would explain the 75 microns. Not sure though, I will call again tomorrow. Id really like to run an inline deal, mostly to keep weight down. i cant run a screw on in the standard location, I machined that stuff off.
I run in what i consider a pretty clean enviornment, oil gets changed every other race and will get cleaned/inspected Sat. after qualifying at each race.

The galley Im bypassing is a .500 galley. When using 1/2 pipe to -10 XRP adapter fittings and -10 hose ends the smallest orifice in the adapters or hose ends is .490. Im not sweating the .010. The ID of the hose itself is .565. I plan on keeping the hose as short as possible with the least amount of bends as possible, if any.
We run -10 on jordans 540, no oiling issues ....but we got all kinds of other issues![]()
