Oil Pump

Anyone have suggestions or knowledge about billet oil pumps. I was told I should reallly install one while my 502 is apart but man are they expensive. Are they really worth it to prevent pick-up problems and such?

The motor is going into a 21 Daytona, river boat. Mild cam (I don't have the part #s in front of me right now) Blower shop 250. Hoping to get around 700hp @ 6k.

You might want to explain a bit more about the application, how much HP, RPM, that kinda stuff.

Currenly running both a Mellings and a Moroso. Switched after having to many problems with pickups. Can't say if it's needed for a lake boat. We race endurance races and the water can get alittle rough and the boat takes a pretty good pounding. Engine harmonics at extended high R's doesn't help either. The two down sides are, they are expensive, and the pick up is where it is, so pan configuration has to what the pickup in that location, and not all of the do.

Titan's are great pumps but crazy expensive. They may be worth it in a top level wet sump motor. For what you're doing, the Moroso blueprinted pump is a perfect choice. It's about $125 and we've run it in several motors. Very consistant oil pressure, anti-cavitation grooves, good stuff (IMHO)

not to mention that the Titan requires a dedicated pan, and won't clear ANY standard pan steel pan, and most alumn. pans

Hmmm, I wonder if it's the same pump (minus the psi adjustment screw)as Melling's MEL-10778C for $89.95?

I'm guessing Moroso or Melling's both have a good pick-up available also, or should I look somewhere else for that? Going to research them both. And your right about the cost of the Titan, you know when they don't post prices your in trouble.

The Melling 10778C will handle the job IMHO, but regardless of your pump choice if your pick up and pan configuration is not correct the pump is meaningless.

Are they the same? One just slightly better? Both sound like a good choice.
