Nitrous Motors

hotbo, thanks for the reply. My bottom end consists of a Scat Forged crank, Forged H-Beam Rods w/ L19 bolts (site claims they'll support 1500 HP), and forged coated mahle pistons. I cut the rings to the specs that they had in the instructions for 200 shot. My plan with this motor was to possibly run a NOS system on it one day. I was just curious as to when building a motor what other things should be taken into account, things that once a motor is assembled would be difficult/time consuming to change.

nitrous ring gap is bigger than all the rest, blown/turbo/na/etc

My engines a solid roller deal. It made peak HP at 5800. When i talked with straub about the engine we figured 5800 off the bottle and 6200-6300 on.

just make sure the cams peak is where the nitrous puts it, otherwise you'll notice it drop off on the big end on nitrous or no noticeable top mph difference went thru that myself last summer and ended up backing the nitrous down to cam peak and left it there, i was just waste'n nitrous the other way

150 will generally net you 500rpm maybe a slight bit more
200 100-150 more rpm depending on tune.

Probably why he told me 6200-6300 on the bottle, think i was telling him at the time i was thinking 150 shot.

There was a thread about this, and that is what i was trying to say/figure out in the thread asking some of the guys to post dyno sheets. Seamed like if the motor made peak at a specific rpm then thats the rpm you would want to run at while on the juice. That was just my logic, there's no real experience at all behind that. Would be cool to see some before/after dyno sheets to see what happens to the curve.

i don't have any dyno sheets, but i was sprayin 450hp in 2stages in my gullwing and when i'd bring in the 2nd stage , rpms would go over peak and i would have to let outta it by 1/2 track to let the motor settle back to peak, sob would start pulling harder again after that i knew my cam was peaking just above 7k so i impellored it till i could run the 450hp shot and stay near that peak, boat did sooooo much better that way you can do the same if you end up above peak on the nitrous level you wanna run, just stick a bigger impellor in till wot is at peak on cam when on the juice. makes for a meaner holeshot anyways

well so far it looks like my motors going to turn this new impeller i have around 5400 RPM.. And once detailed it sounds like it will be a few hundred rpm lower... So with the juice that might get me up at where i need to be. Doubt i'll do that, probably will get this impeller cut to where i need it for all motor right now... NOS is down the road on a different hull.

On a different hull ?? Why ? I thought your goal was hitting a 100mph ? You have spent alot of time and money on this hull, and a 150-200 shot is whats going to really make it run. Believe me, I went through it with my Miller. I was making over 800hp, w/ every bell and whistle on my MPD built pump, 540lb. hull, blueprinted bottom, yada, yada ..... and only got 102mph on the motor. On the bottle, the thing was a handful. It was only 5-6 mph faster, but it was waaaay quicker. Not saying your boat won't run well, but any tunnel, CP, or flat w/ your same power will walk you everytime. You put a unit on your boat, and you will have way more fun and win way more races. Then when your done with all the slow boats in Parker....come to the other side

Dont think i ever said my goal was to hit 100, would be cool though. I've set out to make this boat as fast as possible problem right now is that saftey is really a big concern of mine. I have kids and a new one on the way so i need to be as safe as possible. Right now my boats all outta wack and i need to get it dialed in. One big concern right now is that i've only had it out once and the bottom infront of the intake where the intake used to be is cracking. jack's not seen a boat do that before and told me to keep a close eye on it. A new hull has always been in my future, just a matter of when.
