When is the water too cold

I drove my first jet boat in lake Mohave up to the next dam ( ? ) the water coming out of the bottom of that dam was less than 40* the outside temp was 114-118* the days we were on the lake.

That would be Hoover Dam.

The greater concern would be a variance of temperatures. Introducing cold water into a very hot block is a greater danger than running cold water through a block that's been acclimated to the water temps.

That engine typically ran at 140* we were headed up to the store that's a few miles downstream from Hoover, I looked over at the temp gauge and it was reading 90*. Well I knew that not long before it was close to 140*, I put my hand down in the water and Wow................... that water was cold.


BTW....you were correct on the Nos system......loose ground wire.

Yeah, that would have been Willow Beach... it's friggen' bitchen up in that area. I once launched from Cottonwood Cove and drove all the way up there in my gullwing... some of the most bitchen scenery on the water... also the coldest water. In the big basin, by far the roughest I have ever driven that boat through, thought we were gonna sink taking buckets of water over the deck at about 40mph... any slower and we would have been swamped. Of course, ran out of gas about 20' away from the dock... really long haul in a small boat.

Of course I was right... that's kinda my thing, it's what I do... being right that is.
