514 BBF Dyno Issue

My Freshly built 514 went to the dyno today to some very dissapointing numbers. With that said I need some help - I didn't expect my engine's first pass to end up with 422hp. Don't remember the tq off the top of my head, it was less than the hp. I haven't seen the printout so I don't even know how many rpms it pulled.

Here are some specs -
514 rotating assembly bored .80 over with Flat top forged pistons. Dove C heads. Tunnel Ram with dual 650 carbs. Cam is a Comp 34-343-4. Gross Valve lift - .640 intake and .640 exhaust. Duration @ .050 is .262 intake and exhaust. 3 angle valve job has been completed on the heads but I do not have flow numbers.

Any ideas on what can be holding me back? To much Cam, not enough flow? My mechanic said there is some corrosion on the carbs but the engine was not running lean during the initial pull. He is going to rebuild the carbs and go again.

what size valves in the heads? It should have made more than that, whats the timing set at? what fuel you running?

Last test today was 470hp and 523tq. Stopped making power at 5100 rpm. Dyno guy says that it is probably the heads.

I also remembered that it has D3 heads NOT D0VE heads on it because I wanted to keep the compression down with the flat top pistons.

I have a set of edelbrock aluminum heads I am going to take to him next week. What size valves SHOULD I be running with the set up. It sounds to me like I am running out of air.

Air and feul. Sounds like the motor is laying down big time. Did you bother to check the plugs for color??? I would bet that the plugs are snow white. Without A/F readings it would be precision guess work. M

Brad Smith (Smith Power) up in Joplin, MO. He admitted that he usually deals with Chevy's. I didn't get the air fuel ratio from him. Last time I spoke with him - he suggested that we take a hard look at the heads. So - what size valves should I be running? Will the D3 heads work with this application or am I pissing in the wind? Who does good head work on Ford stuff? Brad said that he has a "guy" but I wouldn't mind hearing who folks from this forum recommend.

Call high flow dynamics. Ask for Paul. He is pretty savvy on ford heads. Google their website.

I did not build it. Dyno guy didn't run it lean and I doubt air in the dyno room is an issue either. This engine is tiny compared to some of the blower motors comin out of his shop. My first call tomorrow will be to the engine guy to get the cam timing and valve specs, second call will be to Paul. Will keep you guys posted. Sounds like I may have made a poor cam choice for my combination.

Okay lets just put it straight out WHAT DO THE PLUGS LOOK LIKE??????
