I have a 540 BBC tall deck with a 14-71 also and I have had very good luck with the Fel-Pro blue gasket.
Are those the MLS gaskets??

NO. The MLS are black and rougly twice the money. You don't need anymore than this unless you running a compression above 9 to 1 and race gas.Originally Posted by HiMark Racing

I have had nothing but good luck with Cometic! That's what I'm currently running on my 565 with a 1471....6lbs on pump and 11 lbs on good fuel. I think that head studs and proper torque (after heat cycling) is more important than the brand of head gasket.

I use the SCE Copper Head gasket TITAN self sealing , not cheap but a very good gasket .
