496 BBC Dyno results

My old 454 with RV cam and 8:1 compression was getting really tired and using a 2 quarts of oil every trip to the lake so I decided to freshen it up this winter. I took it out and when dissassembled it was determined it needed a new crank because the old crank was already turned .030 and it needed a bore so I checked into costs and decided to put a 4.250 stroke crank in it with a nice Speed Pro Hyper piston on the stock "Truck" rods with good bolts. I also found a nice set of 781 heads to rebuild for it. For a cam we used a Crane L-88 flat solid grind with 264/269 @.050 duration and 112 Lobe Separation. Induction is a Weiand tunnel ram with 2 650 Edelbrock AVS carbs. Compression turned out at 9.75:1 with the piston .005 out of the hole and the heads had no port work at all and retain the stock valves. We set the timing on 32 degrees total and used 91 octane pump fuel and 2 1/4" tube headers and we ran a manual water pump on it for the dyno.

This engine is for my 77 Taylor SJ with Berkely pump.

Any guesses as to what this budget 496 made for HP and where the peak was?

Widetrack was closest so far...

Dang that turned out small...It was 606 HP @ 5300 RPM with 619 ft lbs of @ 5000. Stock 781 heads, factory L88 cam, 9.75:1, 496 ci, Tunnel Ram, 650 Edelbrocks, low RPM lake boat... just a cruiser and tube puller...

GN7 - that dyno sheet looks much like the one from my 463 CI Pontiac engine in my 69 GTO... High points of that one were 709 HP @ 6100 and 680 Torque at 5400...

Stuska - gotta be really close because my GTO at 3525 lbs runs 9.90's at 136 with the 709 HP and 680 torque...
