Now you get the idea why guys that build H/P engines for a customer go so far into the overkill area. They need to cover their ass for extreme usage! I will give an example! go work out at the gym and give it all you got for 30 minutes, then go another 10 hours at the same you started with. Then you can relate that to a nascar engine. Try running your'e engine for 500 miles at 7500 to 9500 rpm. Off-shore motors live on the edge from the start to finish as do the enduro water race boats! To build an engine to live and stay alive for the extreme requires extreme building. Thats what an engine is built to go thru and then think about the cost and why. Even for a weekend warrior the builder has to cover the IDIOT proof side to cover his ass! Which is why I dont do it any more. YOU WANT HOW MUCH!!!! JUST MY LAME ASS OPINION. Mark

Probably a stupid response to you (as you already know) but others read this forum and just thought I would add a comment. Mark

I have always said, nothing beats on a small block like nascar, and nothing beats up on a big inch BBC like Poker runs and Offshore. NOTHING!!!!!

    Thanks Alexi!

Drivers are saying the motors are over responsive and need to relearn/adapt big time!

If you ran 4-5 poker runs a year like the video, and then normal (if there is such a thing) crusing the rest of a boating season, what would be the recommended maintenance on your engines? When discussing Nascar or Endurance racing, those engines run a race and then get torn down. Is this comparable to what you'd recommend?

On the offshore East Coast primarily they will run 2-3 races or Hard Core Poker Runs, then look into Valve Springs, rings and bearings. It usually equates to 300-400 miles at wide open. Poker runners that run fairly mellow at lower Rpm's will go approx 50-65 hrs then freshen. All this is assuming you are keeping your equipment tip top!😉
