Default upstate NY lookin for info

I'm in upstate NY (southern canada practically) and wondering if anyone on these forums are from my neck of the woods....

just bought my first boat, and although i'm sure it doesn't measure up to most of the boats on this site, i joined to learn about how i should take care of my boat, and if there are any poker runs or fun runs around lake ontario, lake oneida or even in NH on lake winnepesaukee, i'd be interested in hearing about them.

    my baby....

Lots of great places to boat in New York. I run Onieda,Cayuga and the St Lawrence. The St Lawrence and Onieda have poker runs.

    fatrat: thanks, i'm lovin her!

dansblownnordic: awesome, thanks for the heads up. Where do you put in the st lawrence, we're waiting to pick up our NH registration, and then throw numbers on, and we'll get the coast guard inspection... then we're anxious to put in, either on the st lawrence, or sackets harbor... maybe even A-bay.

Also, lake oneida looks promising, where are the good places to go, and have a good time? Restaurants...bars, etc... Where do you recommend putting in for lake oneida (we'd be coming south on 81 to hit the lake)

    Thanks again!

FATRAT: love your sig by the way (about the troops), as i'm a troop myself!

A-Bay has several good launch ramps at the local State Parks. They also have a town Dock. The only thing about the St Lawrence is you better have a real good understanding of charts or go with someone who knows the River. You can be in 250 feet of water and go 20 feet and hit a rock. It can get UGLY...If you stay in the channel your ok.

Onieda is kinda the same way with a big rock rief that runs down the middle of the Lake. If your in the channel your ok. If you venture off then you better plan on using a depth finder and have a spare prop.
