Here is what I received in the mail. This should be a great run and good way to kick off the boating season. We passed on the run last year as we had issues with the way they organized things but it looks like they have made the changes that kept us away, i.e. starting and ending the run from the same location that has accomodations and is hosting the party so poker run participants can enjoy the festivities after the run and not worry about having to operate under the influence!!! We are already booked. Mariner's is also pet friendly so if you attend, i'm sure you meet our 2 guys at the after party.
The Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association has been hard at work to make the 2010 poker run THE premier event on the east coast. The SMLBA, Tom Maynard Memorial poker run will be held on May 21st and 22nd, 2010, and this is your VIP invitation. We have made some significant and exciting changes to the event and the agenda.
First, as usual, we will have the opening festivities at Bridgewater Plaza (Mangos) on Friday night with dinner and two bands. THEN, things change!! The Saturday events will all take place at Mariner's Landing. They will have 75 slips available and if you want to leave your boat overnight, there is a $12.00 per night docking fee (with security).
The captain’s meeting and the start of the poker run will be at Mariners and we will return there for the awards banquet and a major party. We will have a complimentary beer garden and access to the pool. That evening, a great band will perform in The Blackwater Room.
We have secured an attractive rate for their condos, so that all may stay at the same location. Mariners has blocked off 60 condos reserved for us until January 1st, 2010. Rooms will be available after that, but only on a first come basis. Our special rate is: $102.00 for a one bedroom, $183.00 for two bedroom and $230, 00 for three bedrooms. Tell them you are with the poker run when making reservations. Your credit card will be charged, but refunds are available two weeks prior to event. This is a magnificent resort with a championship 18 hole golf course. Check out the website: www.marinerslanding.com.
This is the unofficial start of the season at Smith Mountain Lake and because of these major changes in the event, we are not only anticipating a full 75 boats, but an early sellout as well.
Do not hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions. Thank you for your support, and do boat safely.
