Boat Insurance

Who are you guys using for insurance? My father has always had the boat insured with Allstate (since it was new) and when he called them to have the insurance switched over into my name he was told that they won't insure boats over 30 years old and that he was only still being covered because he was sort of grandfathered in.

Does Haggerty have decent prices?

Any other recommendations?

Allstate and State Farm wont do it because of age
Progressive and Geico wont do it because of the open engine
Wozencraft doesn't have the ability to do it because of being on the east coast
Haggerty just plain wont insure a "high performance" boat

However Al at www.performanceboatinsure.com is putting together a quote for me right now! There may be hope yet.

It's insane to me that most of these places (the big carriers) will insure a 90mph bassboat, but not a 55mph jet boat just because you can see the motor.

Just like "Last Dollar", I have Erie as well. Agent is Ron Steele. I just got a quote a few weeks ago on a '97- 23 foot Caravelle with a 454. He gave me 2 quotes...one based on the price I was paying for the boat (which is a good deal) and one based on the what the boat is actually retailed/valued at. First quote was $163 a year and second was $263 a year. That's with a $500 deductible and a $300k personal liability policy in case an accident was to ever happen. I have both my cars insured with them and have been very pleased. I'm in Richmond VA.

you have to have a boat policy and then all others fall under homeowners so for the boats that are hard to insure ie 1000hp hydros you need a primary boat policy then you get an appraisal with stated value and your set

Allstate covers mine. I had to have it appraised and we came up with a cash value that we both agreed upon and that was that. The only requirment was that the boat not go over 90 mph. I think its like 20 bucks per month..

We were able to keep mine insured under Allstate as well, best price around for sure.
