The EMI-510 set up measuring from the manifold to head bolt is about 16.25" tall. They are a little bit talller than the stock Mercury set up because the our runners are a lot longer. You will also save about 90 lbs of weight off the engine as well.

Why don't you try them first to see if your performance will be better. Then go from there, if the performance is sizeable may be worth putting acouple bumps on the hatch.

3 or 4 horse power would never be a good trade off for me,the boat is a pristine 1994 with only 128 hrs

EMI Thunder is about 1" taller than the stock Merc. exhaust. Also, you will see a 10% increase in torque and horse power.
