    Default Boating By Region

Why not take that section make it even more obnoxoius, and time consuming by removing the regions and give each state its own boating thing? Hell, its close to 50 now, why not? I'm not a fan of the micro managed regions. Make it simple... West, Mountain, Mid, East.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this topic and the reasons behind it. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but I will need something more than that to go on. I would not consider it "micro managed."

If you want to have a discussion about it here is the question/thought process:

People don't boat by East, West and Central. I just whipped out my copy of Google Earth, and it appears that America is roughly 2500x1300 miles (counting from the bulk of it, not the tip of TX or diagonal). My bet is that people do not like to drive more than about 4 hours to go boating if they can help it, but for the sake of argument we will say 6 hours. Its around 5 and a half from San Diego to Lake Havasu and I hate every minute of it.

The boating areas are designed to bring people together to talk about boating... well in their area. Thus the name boating by region. I am sure as hell not going to drive from here up to the Delta for a day on the river or even an event. When I talk to people about local events I want it to be relevant to my area.

More food for thought, is that the forums are still very young and we haven't even begun the first phase of our marketing and promotion plan yet. I still believe that having the extra areas for people to expand into will keep thing more sane around here as we grow.

I only visit two sections. I wouldn't want to see Socal and Norcal mixed. I think it works well separate. I don't care about the rest.

    Default Profiles

I think if you look at the member profiles you would find where the boaters are. It is a given that the southwest has alot of boaters, all types of boats. That can also be said about the southeast, the Pac NW, etc etc. And yes, even the great white north, (Canada).......By using profile locations you should be able to narrow down the areas to where there are a substantial number of forum members. That said, when this PB mag gets into full swing the forum numbers and areas will expand. I vote to leave it alone until the overall picture is a little clearer, and the areas better defined. You can easily delete the areas of little or no involvement. Better that way than discouraging areas before their season actually starts. ....MP

Here is something for everyone to look at. To give you an idea, most of those smaller dots represent 200 some visits, and that big frigging dot around over by LA represents 6000 some visits. (I can roll over them and actually look in the stats area).

Again, we have not even really begun to market the site yet, and look at the map already.

I'd give it a summer and see which sub forums have minimal activity. Then trim some fat come the fall.

If you are going to be at LA or Miami you can pick one up. For the near term it is going to be available via subscription only. It will be on news stands before the end of the year, but that process takes a bit of time and everyone wants to see the first issue before they decide to carry it.

From the looks of it there will be an empty spot on the shelf for it to fit right into.

Sounds like a plan to me...
