Gary,
What would you consider a healthy oil temp measured at the pan or after the oil pump? (before the oil cooler)
Thanks

Is this in regards to your 496? Did you add a oil cooler?

No Dennis. The 496 comes stock with an oil cooler. I was discussing oil temp with another member who told me his oil temp never goes above 140. I am trying to determine if his gauge is broken or if the sensor is after the oil cooler. I know from experience that pan oil temps run hotter then 140, no matter how large the oil cooler.
I have seen temps before the cooler up close to 300 in a high performance engine application before the cooler. This was during/after running it pretty hard. With a good sized cooler I like to see it 150-180 or so after the cooler(during/after a hard run). It will sneak up even higher on both sides of the cooler during a race or a long Poker Run. Load, bearing tolerences, and size of the cooler play a big role in the "net oil temp", along with the type of oil. There are other factors, but those are the main ones IMO.
