Default NGK 02 sensor Air/Fuel Ration indicators

    Gary,

I just put together a pair of 516 Gen 5 blocks with B&M 174 Blowers at 5lbs of boost. Installed a single Barry Grant 850 boost referenced Demon on each and am using the NGK meters off of one IMCO Powerflow riser on each motor to set up the jetting.

So far with jet settings of 87 primary, 6.5 power valve and 98 secondary, the A/F indications are 12.2 to 12.5 throughout the throttle range.

I am curious if you have used them before and if there are any pitfalls to watch out for.

    A whole lot of help I am.............................sheesh.

Actually, I have never used any of the components you have listed(other than theGen5 and Powerflows, but I am pleased with your AFR #s throughout, Although at WOT, my supercharged motors are set up a little more conservative than 12.5, but it sounds like you have the knowledge to set yours up perfectly for your own application. It's funny, I have stayed pretty clear of carburated motors for some time, focusing all of my energy on understanding my efi engine packages, and how they will work for consumers..................The learning never stops,,,,,,,as I am sure you know. Happy New Year.

Man you really must be spinning them blowers hard to get 5lbs boost with that cubic inch motors.

The top pulley in the pic almost looks smaller than the snout itself.

Yes, the top pulleys are 2.66 for the winter and I'll change them to 3.0 inch for summer as I don't have intercoolers on the motors.

I figure the air will get a little too warm

Thanks for the info. I have stayed away from EFI systems due to the cost and problems I've heard. You west coast guys are putting together some sweet EFI packages, but I'm on a much tighter budget

I felt like the Lone Ranger on Hotboat.com ..........

I'd never go back to carbs after running EFI.

We where just playing with a motor on the dyno last week trying to get the top end around 11.2 to 11.6. That is when we found something. We where doing a plug change for a fresh pull and we had a 10 split inbetween the primarys and sec , We went to 1 bigering the rear and REGAPPED THE PLAGS and it got dead nuts on the numbers. It also helped on the lowwer end as well.Somtimes the K I S S rule kick us in the ass ???? The blower wasn't making as much boost as you are & there was a lot of air to grab that day as well. may be worth a try???

Thanks Gary, I'll do that. Was running 28 degrees, think that's too retarded? Trying to stay with 91 octane, and planning to drop the boost by poker run season.

Jim -keep the boost down to 5psi without the intercooler on 91 octane. We just read a report on pump gas that stated 91 octane has a shelf live of 4-6 weeks from the time it leaves the refinery.Any time you can spice it up with av-gas,do it.Av gas does not break down.

This is a true post. I can remember Mercury sending out one of there updates about ten years ago stating that the octan levels drop substantially as the boat sits, causing all kinds of different "tuning issues". I will always start the season with a low level of 91 on the tank and a fresh batch of 100+ octane on the first day,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,especially with a supercharged custom built motor.

    RUN FRESH GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
