OK,
Here we go:
When set up correctly, The Whipple 525 upgrade kit works great. The key is, to follow the instructions to a tee, and don't get too excited when it's close to being done and start to rush it. More advice: Put your cell phone away while you are doing this upgrade. There are SEVERAL very critical steps that cannot be overlooked or you will be singing the blues

and you will have no one to blame but yourself. NO interuptions! Also, you have to remember that with more power comes a stronger drive and a better prop to maximize the hp gain. This might require some testing. The power is there, but getting your boat to adapt to it is a whole different part of the process. Here are the facts:
Most customers choose the Polished Whipple 525 kit with the standard intercooler. The cost: $11700 +shipping in most cases. The kit does not come with fuel lines because it would be impossible to include the right amount of fuel line and the right hose ends for all different types of boats. The customer will need to purchase hose and hose ends for fuel delivery. The kit comes with a nice set of water hoses and fittings to do the job, but some customers like to upgrade to cloth braded hose with colored fittings and custom pick ups and dumps. Its not necessary, but it's definately a nice cosmetic touch. You will need a boost/vacuum gauge in the dash, as well as a fuel pressure gauge, and they will need to be mechanical. You will also be adding quite a bit of power to the boat, so a new prop will be necessary(about $900+ for a lab Bravo). Full hydraulic steering is a must! As far as blowing up the drive: I have seen several Whipple/535 owners out there with stock XR's and no trouble, but remember. A blown up drive might happen 50+ miles from your trailer? It might cause you to wreck or take a bite out of the dash of your boat? I guarantee you wont be hot rodding it when it lets go.......Is it worth it.........................? Not in my opinion. These are only the basics,,,,as we haven't even touched on interior mods or sea strainers for the intercooler, etc.............This install is much easier to do when the motor is out of the boat. Some Dealers will only do it that way. I have done it both ways and its definately nicer to do it on the engine stand, because EVERYTHING comes off and gets replaced. I hope this helps and does not scare anyone away from this great upgrade. If I was running a 525, I would have done it long ago
