    Default Some Whipple pricing

Just curious....I think many other forum members may be as well; how much to Whipple a strong 525 without steering, drive upgrade, etc....just motor work/charger and gauges. Some folks already have the steering in place and will live with the drive until it grenades!!!

Can you show breakdown of equipment VS labor to install.

Thanks Gary...your "section" is very helpful and fun!!!

    Billy,

I will get to your question this evening. Pricing on the forums is kinda tough, seeing how there are so many different Performance builders that can do the work, and their prices vary depending on the boat, interior, among other things but I will do my best to give everyone a straight forward $$ figure and what is needed to do the job.

    OK,

    Here we go:

When set up correctly, The Whipple 525 upgrade kit works great. The key is, to follow the instructions to a tee, and don't get too excited when it's close to being done and start to rush it. More advice: Put your cell phone away while you are doing this upgrade. There are SEVERAL very critical steps that cannot be overlooked or you will be singing the blues and you will have no one to blame but yourself. NO interuptions! Also, you have to remember that with more power comes a stronger drive and a better prop to maximize the hp gain. This might require some testing. The power is there, but getting your boat to adapt to it is a whole different part of the process. Here are the facts:

Most customers choose the Polished Whipple 525 kit with the standard intercooler. The cost: $11700 +shipping in most cases. The kit does not come with fuel lines because it would be impossible to include the right amount of fuel line and the right hose ends for all different types of boats. The customer will need to purchase hose and hose ends for fuel delivery. The kit comes with a nice set of water hoses and fittings to do the job, but some customers like to upgrade to cloth braded hose with colored fittings and custom pick ups and dumps. Its not necessary, but it's definately a nice cosmetic touch. You will need a boost/vacuum gauge in the dash, as well as a fuel pressure gauge, and they will need to be mechanical. You will also be adding quite a bit of power to the boat, so a new prop will be necessary(about $900+ for a lab Bravo). Full hydraulic steering is a must! As far as blowing up the drive: I have seen several Whipple/535 owners out there with stock XR's and no trouble, but remember. A blown up drive might happen 50+ miles from your trailer? It might cause you to wreck or take a bite out of the dash of your boat? I guarantee you wont be hot rodding it when it lets go.......Is it worth it.........................? Not in my opinion. These are only the basics,,,,as we haven't even touched on interior mods or sea strainers for the intercooler, etc.............This install is much easier to do when the motor is out of the boat. Some Dealers will only do it that way. I have done it both ways and its definately nicer to do it on the engine stand, because EVERYTHING comes off and gets replaced. I hope this helps and does not scare anyone away from this great upgrade. If I was running a 525, I would have done it long ago

Oh, Plan on 25-30 hrs labor for the ENTIRE job, from a professional shop.(including the gauges/hoses, etc....) It can be done much faster, but if you count everything,,,,,,it will EASILY take this long.

    Jeeeesh Billy,

All that typing and no response at all................Not even a "whatever dude" or a "Dude, What about the head gaskets", or a, "How much for a MOAC", or a "But what about a blue kit"....................nothing. I'm kinda hurt.

    Hey Gary,

Is that 25-30 hr install estimate for a twin application or just one 525 whipple conversion? Is that about the same time it takes to install a 496HO whipple?

I am saying 25-30 hrs to do the entire install, gauges, etc for one engine. Remember, it could be a bit more or less, depending on the boat, and the dealer. Probably a little more to be honest.

I put the whipple kit on my 496 and it took me 4 to 5 weekends to get it done. I was very anal about everything and the supercharger it a sweet little package. There is so much time to get everything right. Gary knows what he is doing. I cant say how much more I love to drive my boat know than before. I spent 10k doing the project my self. There is so much time that goes into it and you don't want to rush it. Here is a few shots of mine.

a few of the seat mods, That was another weekend I had to build the box three times to get it right. But I was on a mission!!!! It took all that I hade to put this whole project together. But I think it turned out ok. TONS and TONS of time. Hope this helps. Remember Every boat has different set ups one boat may be harder or easer to make the install.

The boat came with a XR and single ram WPM steering I also found that a 26p
p5x was the right prop to get the power to the ground

How many hours do you have on your whippled HO? Did you do any internal upgrades?
