Default Great Food Big Orange boat (Thomson Bay)

Yesterday while waiting for our burger and dog's we talked to the owner of the big orange pastie boat, Tricia. She told us that although her husband Steve and her have spent years running this family owned business and maintain all the licenses and health dept. certifications, the BLM has given them 2 weeks to stop doing business. Now this really got us going because they have really great food at reasonable prices and in our book they are a Havasu landmark. We were glad to see the beach empty of all the jet ski rental squatter's, but if the BLM applies this rule equally to all concerned it means no one can do business of any kind on the water, which is just plain assinine. Tricia and her husband Steve also run Signcraft, www.signcraft@hotmail.com. They have hired an attorney, but if anyone else thinks they should be allowed to stay it wouldn't hurt to email them your support.

That just does not sound right!! I was on the fence about the vendors, I like seeing them, and it is good business for tourists to rent jet skis etc, but on the other hand, the beach area looks great without them.
As far as Steve's deal, I don't see why he can't run his business, how about SeaTow and Vessel Assist, wouldn't that be the same thing?

    RIP Dave

I have to agree to a point. There was just too many vendors out there.
I don't mind seeing a few vendors esp. the food vendors. There are plenty of places to rent PWC's in town. But it sure is nice seeing the beaches clear of the PWC vendors.
SeaTow and Vessel Assist come from private docks, thats the only difference I see there.

I realized yesterday just how much beach space the vendors had appropriated for themselves! It would really be a shame to see the orange boat go because it is pretty nice to be able to grab a hamburger when the mood hits!

They were told anyone using BLM WATER to conduct their business which would include Houseboat Rentals, Sea Tow, and many others.

Lets hope the city gets behind these people and fight for some common sense.

Now wouldn't that affect Lake Mohave and Mead also. I understand why it wouldn't affect Lake Powell since that is a National Park and Aramark has a contract with them. Also what about the Casino Boat?

The City is responsible for opening this "CAN OF WORMS" and now has created some interesting Legal Issues. They were to Chicken to deal with Vendors on the beach and brought the BLM into do their dirty work.I can promise you if Sea Tow and Vessell Assist are drug into this everything will change and quickly.

What about the boat dealers that use the lake for test rides, Jet ski rentals, beach at the nautical, casino boat. Where does is stop! I have dealt with the BLM on the Parker Strip and it was like talking to a board. Legal may be the only way they will have common sense!!

The question that continues to come up,is if the Vending has been allowed for over ten years, how come now? BLM has looked the other way and all of a sudden they are in panic mode to evict.

If you have a land based business and just use the water that is ok. all the rentals where only on the water with no permits. If they would not spread out so far it wouldn't really bother me they just had to take up so much shore line.

    Default a shame

If the big orange boat isnt out there-that would be a shame!!
Their food is so good! I crave the phillies with jal all week long. They have fair prices too! I would hate to see them go.

Honestly they are great people! They donate alot to people and events in the community! They helped me pay my electric bill (when i was temp out of work)and i know they bought christmas presents for another family. Their daughter goes to school with our daughter, so i know first hand. They didnt even know us and never asked for money back.
They do more for people around here than alot of the so called clubs.

Does anyone have a picture of their boat. It sure seems like this is the kind of business and people Havasu Needs.

They are not taking up any beach area parked out in the middle of bay.

Tony the BLM is a nightmare to deal with. Worst government agency I've ever had to deal with. They have a "call someone who cares" attitude. Just guessing, but there is probably some policy or reg somewhere that does not allow vendors or concessions in those area. It literally takes an act of congress to change the rules. And local BLM usually doesn't care. Good luck to them, but I wouldn't spend too much money on attorney's, especially since the BLM will throw out the "we're a Federal agency and State laws don't apply to us".
