Default Another 455 water in oil question.

Any suggestions on where all this water came from? Spent about 10 minutes on the water and got water in the oil. I pulled the heads and everything looks good. Head gaskets looked tight, no intake manifold leaks (has an aluminum high rise). I don't have a relief valve or a gate valve in line but am planning on adding them. Does anyone know what the source usually is? The motor was recently rebuilt.
    Thanks!

    Do you have headers?

No headers (not yet anyway). It's got logs.

I think you need to regulate the water commin in some how. Some use gate valves and some use a pressure regulater. My boats have gate valves. I also make sure the discharge lines are bigger than the inlet lines. I dont know if this helps but I have never had a problem.

Thanks, that's where I was heading with this. I'm putting it all back together over the next couple weeks and hopefully will get it taken care of once and for all.

What are you running for an intake gasket? Hopefully not the stock "turkey tray".

Don't over look corrosion at the waterpump block off plate or timing cover as a potential source.

It had the Mandella intake manifold gasket and I didn't see any sign of leaks when I pulled it (this is the second time I've gone through this). This time I've ordered the Mr. Gasket from Summit to see how that works. When we got back to the house we plugged the water line and pressurized the motor with the water hose and found lots of leaks coming from the front cover. I'm planning on pulling it and making sure it's right before reinstalling.

Thanks for the suggestions, any thoughts on the Mr. Gasket intake gasket? It looked descent and last time I used the Mandella, it took 6 weeks to get it.

I had the same problem. I backed off the ball valve that is on the jet inlet and that solved the problem. The pressure regulator/bypass is one of the next projects.
