    Default Girl Drag Racer

Shoemaker, This goes back 24 yrs ago.I went to school with a girl named Colleen Shannon. There family raced a tunnel jet and had a partner that helped out.I think that Colleen was the driver.Do you remember these people and what did the boat run? She was a little blonde hotrod. She hated me though.

Not sure what they ran, but the partner was Larry Shaleen. They also ran a BGJ called "Slapshot". The last boat they campaigned was a Kurtis BGH......late 80s to early 90s I think. Shoe could probably fill you in on details............for an old f'er he sure has a good memory.

    Default Slapshot

Mark, When BGJ was in it's hayday there were an number of very competitive teams.Mert Littlefield and Larry Shaleen ran a Crusader tunnel in BGJ Neil Shannon Coleens father had a Rogers and I think that was the boat Coleen drove.Mert and Larry went there different ways and Larry teamed up with Neil and ran an Eliminator in BGJ. As far as I know Coleen never drove the BGJ. Larry and Neil ran in BGJ until the class was eliminted. [ That is a story in itself] Most of the competiors moved on to BGH and ran with the IHBA of years. The class was so big it was changed to a 16 boat field and it was not uncommon to have 20 to 25 boats to show for an event.

The Shannons have a place on the lower river not far from AHA, I see them quite often. Cool people.

    Default Colleen

Talked to Larry Shaleen today and found out a little more info.Colleen drove the Rogers but only for a short time.Bill Scotten and I put a REAL light CP together and that was the boat Colleen drove for a full year. When she quit I sold the boat to a fella in Beaumont TX. I had completely forgot about this boat until Larry reminded me.Memory is that the 1st or 2nd to go!!!!

Here's "slapshot" in early 80's with Neal Shannon driving. Also heard Colleen recently became a grandma.
