Shoe/rideplate ?

I am in the process of making a shoe/rideplate for my Avenger and am thinking of breaking the sides of plate for stiffness and also have it turned down for fin.Has this been tried and was there any difference?

I've seen something like a 3/4x3/4 angle bolted to the top side edges for stiffness but not the bottom. My guess is it will just cause drag.
