Have you ever heard of someone converting their jet to a sterndrive?
Jets just aren't my thing but I really like my boat. I couldn't sell it and buy a similar style sterndrive boat without spending an extra $10k. Its Hallett mini cruiser. Obvioulsy fill the hole where the intake and pump currently reside. I'm sure that the transom would have to be beefed up. What about determining X dimensions and would the hull be stable with a stern drive? The boat is currently listed in the boat spam section with pics if you want to see it.
Well the obviuos is that the hole in the bottom of the boat would have to be filled the transom hole would have to be repaired and we would have to increase the transom width to approx. 2 1/2 inches to accomodate the gimble. What is the transom height on the Hallett you are looking at? What drive do you plan on putting in the boat. Bravo or Alpha drive? How much power do you plan on running?
I already own the boat. I put it up forsale because I didn't really like the jet. It's currently powered with a 500hp Ford motor. I'm guessing that means I would be looking at a Cobra drive or maybe Volvo SX from what I read. Would love to run a Bravo but don't know if theres a Ford to Bravo conversion. I'll measure the transom tonight when I get home. I know the quick anser is just sell it and buy a what you want. But I'm genuinely curious about this conversion.
There are two conversions that are going on that have threads on RDP. One is a Spectra 20 going from a jet to 502mag and a Bravo outdrive. The other is a Schiada 21 RC going from and outdrive to a v-drive. The Schiada is replacing the stringers also. I will pm the links to you. I know they aren't exact to what you want to do, but it will give you an idea of the work involved. Maybe PM the owners and see if you can talk to them on the phone and get some insight.
