Default low profile intakes on gullwings?

greg, how does a low profile intake help gullwings fly so high? is it just basically lower the entire pump down closer to keel level or is it the intake throat angle? i've never seen a low profile intake in person and its got me wondering about em. thanx tom e.

Generally you get an extra degree of pump angle, and the fact the pump is much closer to the water. Shorter entry, less water lift to the pump, all help in efficiency. You can run less aggressive hardware to get you pump loading properly, less drag = more speed. Plus the gained transom lift, allows you to be quicker, and not fly at a nose high attitude, making it not so bad on shut down. There are so many pluses to running one, why would one choose to to run one.

    Default low profile

As long as I can remember the baseline setup on a gullwing has always been a 4 degree intake with various shoe combinations all which prove to be effective with proper guidance and setup. When it comes to a low profile intake there only a few that have ventured into this area of setup. Impatient pretty much sums it up lower thrust line more lift, more lift in a vee bottom can be a bad thing, I 'm not opposed to the low profile intake in a vee bottom but with todays power that can be made this can become a very flighty combination when not properly srtup.
