Has anybody taken apart a Gen VI 502 HO?
I have heard they have SRP pistons, true or false?

The one I rebuilt had JE pistons in it. (At least that is what was cast on the bottom of the piston).

All 502's have 4 bolt main GM 502 block, GM steel crank, 7/16" rods, and special J/E pistons with non typical rings 2MM / 1.5MM / 4MM low tension oil ring.

Great, should be fun to find rings for.

I was told that a gen 6 502 is externally balanced by tech support at Scoggin Dickey today.
that seems strange to me.

Actually pretty easy to find rings for it - just get ready to pony up. Call Scoggin Dickey back - they have the regular rings and also a file fit set with a regular tension oil ring. Your choice - the regular set has low tesnion oil ring that will just use some more oil.

Yup, they are ext balanced. Not strange at all. All 454's are ext balanced too.
