They are a cheaper brand but I ran 3 of them in the old boat and 2 in the truck and have had zero problems with them. Yes, they get hot as hell and you dont want to accidently touch one after a couple hours of loud listening, but they didn't shut down often. A quick cool down with a wet towel after 3 hours of playing at the sandbar and it would run for a couple more hours no prob. I didn't have any fans on them which would have kept them cooler.

Are you saying you can get a JL 500/5 for 300$ That sounds really cheap. I have 3 500/5 JL's in the new boat and will prob be parting with one and replacing it with a Hifonics sub amp.

Is this for a boat or car/truck?

I run the Zeus ZXi-6406 in my boat. At the 2-ohm load I'm running it at, it pushes 170x4. Haven't run it hard on a hot day yet, but no problems so far.

Don't know what else you guys are running in your systems, but is anyone else running an AudioControl Matrix to help the amps out? I LOVE that thing in my setup. :)

I just talked to the guy and he said it is not the 500/5 it is the A6450, which is a 6 channel and the rear channel is bridgeable. And it is for a boat

I really like the old Audio Control stuff. I still have some PPI stuff on the shelf. The 6406 would be the 4ch amp I would go with if I needed one. I bet it will get hot as hell in the summer. Do you like 'amp tattoos"? :D

I put this thing under the console, where I hopefully won't have to go. It's also slightly out of reach-in space, so I'm hoping not to get burnt. :)

Ahhh, PPI - the TA (which as been on jack stands in the garage for 8 years now) still has an Art series A600.2 for the 3 JL 10w6's and a A300.2 for the Alpine DD-Drive components in the doors and rear quarters. :D Old school, yo!

No extras. That complete system, minus the head unit, is still in the car. I'm guessing the speakers might be dry rotted, but the amps will still work great in another 8 years when it gets back on the road! :D

BTW, I just found that HiFonics zxi-6406 brand new for $144! In my rig, it's setup as 170w x 4 @ 2ohm. That's a lot of power for $144.

I think I'll add another one. ;)
