I got this boat with a ervinrude 25hp motor on it. Not sure the exact model. Motor is a 2 stroke, doesnt look to be injected. So what mix should i do? Any other maintance that needs to be done on these? I got it on this little boat i got and the guy knew nothing about it.

50:1 per OMC. Have the impeller changed if it isn't streaming water out, yes when running at idle. Drain the carbs (run them empty) if it will sit for any length of time. You can do it on the trailer or un plug the fuel hose when coming to shore. Also change the lower unit oil.

That depends on what year it is. If it is really old, 50:1 will burn it up!!!!! The old motors didn't have bearings. :)bulb

Get the model number off the clamp or swivel bracket, post it here, and I'll look it up for you. :)

Forkin' Crazy, you know your shit... I actually found the awnser on there site in the FAQ section. Thanks!!!

Q - What is the fuel/oil mix for my motor?
A - The following is generally true: 1958 and prior used 20:1, 1959 thru 1963 used 24:1, 1964 and newer use 50:1. High performance usage (racing) requires a ratio of 25:1. New engine break-in (not DI) requires 25:1.

Thanks. Working at a dealership at one time helps a bit. ;)

I run my motors at 40:1, but only turn them 7K max.;)

Trying to figure out what model this thing is, some body took off the plate that has the model information. On the heads i found a silver circle, looks like it's a freeze plug. It has the number 25702S and below that 0001985. Searching the net a site talks about getting the numbers off the freeze plug or powerhead (as long as they have not been rebuilt) to help identify the year i have. The numer 25702 does match up with the model number for the 1977 version but i'm hoping there's another place where i can find a model number so i can be more sure!

ok but is there any other place that has the model number where i can be sure?

Also considering the age of this thing and the fact it doesnt look to have ever been rebuilt should i run a slighly richer mix of say 30 or 40 to 1?

50:1 will be fine. I have a '73 50hp that runs like a clock.

Freeze plug and clamp bracket is it.
