    Default 455 guru's, a little advice please

Just picked up a carrera 20.5 with a 455/berk. Previous owner put a single carb tunnel ram on it. I hate how it looks, but boat runs pretty decent. Im wanting to know if switching to one of the crosswind/torker, ect. Intakes will hurt performance much, if any.

Unknown specs on motor, seems strong, 8qt miloden pan, hardin logs, 750 vac secondary holley, might have a small cam

    Thanks in advance!

That is the best thing you could do for it. Unless you want to spring for the Edelbrock air gap.

there ya go...you got 2 answers to your post...it will run strong with the Torker & a 700/750 DP (get rid of the 750 vac carb)...you will be amazed at the performance! ...just my .02 cents p.s. without knowing the internals of the motor or any mods to the oiling system...keep it "under" 5k or it will come apart

Ok, im gonna change the intake out then, its leaking on the end seals anyhow. The vac. Secondary is going to have to stay on it for now since its new and my boat budget is hurting...lol

I hear the 5k thing, read up on that some and dont want to hurt the motor this season. BBF next year!!!

Anyone need an offenhouser tunnel ram

Your post was going so well until you said the above

We wash our parts in gasoline,
    We drink Alcohol,
And we go racing with Nitro-Methane!

For an Olds spinning 5K a tunnel is way to much and a torker may even be excessive. Need to know whats inside for sure.

Dang, no love for the ford crowd in here..lol. trying to pick up an intake in the next couple days. Im not going to mess with this olds much. Probably the only way im going to find out whats inside is when it goes outside....lol. im going to be nice to it this summer though sure would be nice to have a full boating season without major repairs.

    Thanks for the help guys!

They put a lot of 455s in jets. Not the best thing in the world but they work great for a daily driver. Lots of low end grunt. They just werent designed to spin real fast but they will spin for a long time. A boat that does 60 all the time is a lot better that one the goes faster some fo the time if you know what i mean

Good move on the BBF! There are plenty of us Ford guys on the boards. We just don't talk about the secret.

I will trade you your choice of either an Edelbrock Performer or Torker for the tunnel ram

Suspect you arent privy to what compression ration this engine is or much else about its internals beyond what you listed and considering the Olds propensity to lots of different problems you would probably do well to even run a stock iron OEM manifold or even and Edlebrock performer (particularly in light of a single Vac secondary carb on a single top T'ram) , personally I would strive to keep the WOT rpms on this Olds below 4600 (big impeller etc ) Tom
