    Default Project Jimmy Johnson TX-19

Drove 14 hrs straight to pick her up, after work and without sleep got home and already started making progress! It's got a bad drivers side stringer and various other things but nothing a willing and ready new owner can't handle! I have always loved these boats and cherished their design and functionality! I am retiring my v-bottom to a little stock lake boat and putting my monster motor in this one! Any suggestions on proper stringer replacement and do's and don'ts and what type of wood?

Great boat lot of work ahead of you here. Pm TRG for wood choices and tips about replacing them he's done a handful

Where are you located! I know of this boat and if you are replacing one stringer your best bet is to replace both and bulkhead too! Nice boat that just needed some fixing up! Good luck!

It was a quick boat with the 475 motor too!

I'm in Cypress, Tx. The passenger stringer is solid as a rock though, and the bulk head? Why is it a must to replace both if only one is bad?

My new boat mentioned above Needs lots of TLC, that boat has been to say the least neglected the past few years and is in desperate need of a make over, about the only thing that is still nice is the paint! I restored my vhull "below" so my TX will get the same treatment!

Bought it less motor, I have a solid roller 496 that made around 760hp that's in my vhull, thats going in it! I'm putting a stock 454 with a nice little bump stick back in my vhull with tunnel ram and 2 600 holleys. One of the nicest boats on the lake but doesn't like a bunch of hp it's been in my family since new in 1977.

Dont take me wrong! But if the stringer is the same age as the other one it won't be long before it goes bad IMO! I was just thinking that it would be like taking a 454 BBC and putting new rings in one side and not the other! To replace the stringers all the way the bulkhead has to be removed in the process so a new one goes back in! This is your project and you do as you like I am just not a half way person and from the looks of your V hull you are not either! Good Luck with your project!
