Where in Washington? I'm in Portland and you can always use my forklift. Tow it down, yank it out. Put motor in your tow vehicle for trip home. When wanting to put back in, your welcome to use![]()
An A-Frame is the only way to do it well, easily makes it a 1 person job. This one was bought at a garage sale for $10, and it has casters on the feet to move, and an I-Beam to move the weight left to right. You could easily make one out of 4x4's, 6x4's in your garage, and just attach it to already in place studs, just got to beef it up. Also you can get the hoists from Harbor Freight for cheap.

You could probly go to your local steel yard and get some box tubing that would fit inside the legs and boom . Measure what u have now then add 2 feet that should be enuff . I would do the legs 2 other wise it will tip over. Then just bolt ur wheels to the new pieces and drill the holes n the boom . Shouldn't set u back more than 50 bucks .
When I had to install an engine in an ocean type cruiser w/outdrive, I put a standard cherry picker in the back of a pick up for additional height. I strapped the back of the picker around the bed to the mid point of the truck frame to keep it from tipping, and extended the beam to the last hole.... Worked great because the ram will go quite a ways down and allow the "up" travel you'll need to clear the boat once it's hung...You may have to remove the tailgate, and watch the truck bumper hitting the pump....Or come in from the side...
Just another idea you might toss around and come up with something that will work for you....

PS I was installing a small V6, so be careful if it's a BBC....

Do you know anyone with a forklift?
I have got mine out solo with a standard hoist and even into the bed of my lifted truck. It will work, just be careful and patient.

have motor ready then call a tow truck and have them lift it out.
Here's the easiest way. Recess a 3000# winch into the ceiling joist for max clearance! Jocko
Your pretty crafty. Just build a gantry crane. Get the iron and then get a trolley at harbor freight for cheap.
Or just use it as a good excuse to get a small cheap forklift!
