Pull the intake clean it and the hull and reset it correctly
That would be the best way to go but from what I gathered from his posts is do the major repair and rebuild during the off season and for now patch and run? I could be wrong but for him to do that whole deal the way it needs to be done would beach that boat for the next 2-3 months! Boat strip, roll over, bottom work, set back and then set back and if you read his first posts, that is his winter project or maybe a different hull? I was just trying to advise on a proper fix to get thru the boat season. Thats what I getMark
mark you and i are on the exact same page. thanks for your help with keeping it straight.
tom i would love to set it correctly but as mark said i dont want to miss my season. there is plenty of wheeling weather after boat weather i can use to work on the boat. also since i dont have any exact measurements or the best way to set it, i would rather wait and gather as much info as possible. i could always put it back as it is, but who is to say its correct now. once and done i hope. would you have any pointers or photos you could share either here or pm or email about setting the intake. i have seen numerous boats you have done and they all turn out beautiful.
i know this "bandaid" fix isnt best but it will satisfy both needs now opposed to one or the other. i just filled the holes that someone drilled through the bottom to mount the seat so the intake sealing will be next. and sanding of the bondo that someone applied with what must have been a yard rake.
Hey Bro, Im not trying to sound like a know it all or anything close... BUT: In a weekend you could pull the motor, cut out the intake using heat or a fein cutter, clean up the glass with an angle grinder, get 4 bolts to preset the intake, mix up some MarineTex and reset the intake properly. I think you will be very proud of your project, and unless you had a far better hull, flush front to rear will probably be just fine. Just saying... I was in your shoes years ago, but the hole cut out from the factory was 1.5" outta parallel in the length of the cutout vs. the stringers. No choice but setback, and so worth it for my deal.![]()
What goes through peoples minds when they hack shit like this together. Wel if all else fells you can put it on cl say it does 100 mph.should sell pretty quick.
i have no idea. if the guy i bought it from had any idea he was the best bluff ive met. i keep calling it a hobby so i dont get frustrated with it. its fun when it goes out so thats all that matters to me until i get it better, or buy a better one and start over.
That's all that maters is if you have fun . I bought mine who's budys with 2 of the big wigs on this sight and wrote a bs list of things it needed fuel lines , tune up blah blah blah blah . I tear into it and the balsa is rotted and if it's not one thing after onother . Boats are a hobby any thing else and your kidding your self. Good luck tho it'l be worth it n the end .
