Figured id actually run a build thread on this boat. Any advice and or help is greatly apreciated. Not new to rigging but new to rigging a jet. So here we go
Thanks, i ended up at about 2 deg end of last year and it helped alot. I was having a slight porpous right at 78-80 but im thinking the impeller was creating air thus causing my problem.
yup! thats it. Had it out 3 times and broke the drive 2 out of 3 times out before the motor let go on the 3rd trip and i said screw it! I was hoping i could get through the season before converting to jet! but looking back at it now it was the Smartest thing i did! It was in pretty rough shape when i got it. Good thing i basically stole it!
Boat ran great. Had an issue with a stuck float but after i got that fixed it ran great all weekend. I did loose the pin for my forward/reverse cable, but i just pulled the reverse bucket and ran it. In the half dozen times ive had it out ive never had reverse. Didnt know why i thought this trip would be any different! lol Water was really flat sunday morning when i got the gps on the boat 79.4 spinning an A/B 5500 rpm. I was able to run 5800 late friday and saturday when there was some chop but i was flying the nose the whole way. Im already looking into hardware set-up and see a few things that might yeild a little more speed. I see mid to upper 80's in the very near future.
Hey TJ, after meeting you, your lady and your brother, this weekend I went back and re read you thread. Damn man I'm bummed I didn't come down and take a closer look. I walked down and looked at the boat you did for your Dad (nice job by the way) and I looked at your bro's boat, but I forgot how much work you have done on your boat. Next time for sure I want a closer look! We took a stroll down to your end of the beach Sat, but you guy's were out somewhere. I really enjoyed meeting you guy's Friday evening, you guy's are a good group. Maybe we'll see you Fathers day.
It was fun running you Saturday on the way back from lazy Harry's til the wife have me the leg tap . Keep tweaking I'm sure there's a few changes you can make to get to run the numbers you want it was carrying the nose fairly good
sorry guys totally forgot i had this thread running. Greg im sure we will see each other again. Just electric( sorry i never did catch a name) tons of fun.
Now a little update, had the boat out for fathers day in Needles. The boat hates added weight! My brother and his G/F came out and totally killed the way the boat rode! My brother is not built like me or my other brother lol (hes 6'1 240) . The boat ran slow and wet 66mph. but i did get some alone time and was able to find some speed! ended the day @ 84.3 when i got out of it . The gps was screwed up and wouldnt save max speed. It kinda a pain trying to watch the water and read a little gps! I see 90's in the neer future.
Well looks like I might have lost the motor this weekend! Decided to run from Laughlin to topock, and almost to needles I hear my scoop bounce. Shut it down right away. Ended up snapping the carb stud at the top of the carb and it went for a ride. Looks like the blower motor isn't going to wait till next yr anymore ! I'm hoping that the 3in long stud with a wing nut didnt make it all the way to the cylinder but we will see tomorrow!
well the wing nut made its home between the #3 valve and head, but the stud worked its way into the #5 cylinder. Bent the intake valve and hit the piston. Im feeling pretty lucky that it didnt put holes in the block! ill post pics later!
Its been a very busy winter with re-rigging the boat. So i decided to add some pics now that its been wet this year. Still need to do some tunning on the pump but i am happier than ever with the new powerplant( with the exception of the broken rocker arm)
New motor is a 565 14.6 to 1 roller motor and is running on e-85. Just figured id share a few pics for all to see.
Boat ran 6200-6300 turning a small A. I also started playing the nitrous and got 6500 on a 100 shot. No gps numbers but im sure its triple digits.
Dam looks like your not messing around with the looks of that motor)THumbsUp
So that intake was Plummed for a fogger I see and u went with a plate system, why is that?
Thanks larry and matt! It actually settles very well when i get out of it. Im guessing due to being so heavy. Goes perfectly straight!
Blender- Thanks for the kind words. Yes the intake is plumbed for a fogger set-up. I have a plate on it for a few reasons. Im new to nitrous in a boat, Im new to E-85, Im new to e-85 and nitrous and I really dont plan to go too big on the nitrous. I think i can get my numbers with less than a 250 shot. Its more of a lake/play boat. Im shooting for about 110mph which might even be achievable without the bottle ( once i get the tune/setup right) . PS congrats on your numbers.
Just figured id update this tread a little. Well the boat has done what ive asked. I finally put it on the gps and have offically gone 100+ in my boat. It ran 100 even @ 6300 rpm before i got hit and told to slow down. I didnt get to run it on the bottle yet but will next time out.
Thanks guys. It has been a tough battle getting it all to work right but the feeling of acomplishment makes it all worth while! Now to start tuning the hardware. I think 105 on motor is doable!
