Default Evacuation tubes in headers vs. Puke tank/Catch can

Any advantages or disadvantages of one over the other?

Its my understanding that the evac tubes into the headers will actually help seal the pistion rings by kinda creating a vacuum. I ran a set on my street car, and would notice about one quart of oil would get lost each night out with the car.

Running just a puke tank or catch can would stop for the most part any loss of oil from the breathers.

I was plannin on putting a vacuum pump system on my boat, but just have not done it yet. I think the vacuum pump is probably the best method, but also the most expensive.

A friend of mine was telling me the other day that vacuum pumps add 100 HP to an engine, I thought he was full of sh!t but what the hell do I know besides nothing.

Is there a website or thread I can read to learn more about a vacuum pump system?

he's full of it fo sho it would have to have no ring tension at all to pick up 100hp on a dyno

It would take more than that to pick up 100, like putting on that last spark plug wire or reaching under the dyno console for some adjustment!

Stanger things have happened, but that's just a little tough to believe!

You have me scratching my head on that one.

I would think one system would defeat the other

The pan vac system creates a small vacuum to evac ( reduce) crankcase pressure the punk tank is a pressure vent system (I think ) but what the hell do I know.............

On the Vac pump 24-40 Hp is typical. Even the guy's that sell them in no way claim over 50 hp.

They do help in sealing, an for around 700-800 bucks that is cheap for that amount of HP gain! WT

    Question

What exactly does a vacuum pump do for the engine, that increases horsepower??? Is it different than a dry sump system???

Thanks, as you can probably tell I don't really know that much about this stuff.

i'm using je nitrous rings, they're not low tension , so i have no need for vaccum on the block. the evacs don't operate till upper rpms. the puke tank let's the motor breathe at those lower rpms, allows condensation to escape the block, and also acts as a remote breather when the evacs are working there was a method to my madness i was just trying to maintain atmospheric pressure in the block at all rpms and keep all the oil inside her works great

fyi, the evacs don't pull away oil every trip out this way either, other fellas i know with only evacs lose a 1/2qt or more thru the evacs on a day out on the lake, i don't.

One would think a person with your post count would know everything ?

Just go to Googel or Ask.com and type in Engine vacuum pump....
